You're finally here... so cool :) 3dvf will rules the challenge if it continue ;-)
Mine will come in the 2d section, nearly complete a sketch :)

Good luck my friend :)

My idea is getting more precise:
i m now working on a mix between pixel art and 3D cartoon render
may looks like a game boy screen putted in volume...

stereo
05-22-2002, 05:37 PM
ok i just started to model some pixel looking objects...
inspiration comes from gameboy screen, pixel art ...

oldies but goodies...

Adrien

I love your idea...
a perfect mix between pixel artwork and 3D.. :-)

MikaelPersson
05-23-2002, 09:17 AM
WOW
but then you should turn of antialiasing and make the aliasing yourself. If you want to be real hardcore. ;)

stereo
05-23-2002, 09:41 AM
:))) sure
maybe i m not a real hardcore one :]
i don t have much time on this contest so i will work by small period.
hope i ll finalize: i must have a giant robot very basic in the background that comes to the cam, he should be handling some saw...i m now modelling and i ll see after about the character design.:bounce:

MikaelPersson
05-23-2002, 09:44 AM
But you should be able to do the modelling real fast if you´re going to stick with the pixel aspect (extruded bitmaps). Just draw them in illustrator and extrude.

stereo
05-23-2002, 09:50 AM
that s exactly what i m doing .....
the longest part is that i have to draw pixel elements and it s not so fast as U could imagine :)))

i m not an expert in pixel art so i have to check each point to see if it is correct or too heavy for the object design .....

see U :]

You could try shading the trees with pixels too.
Maybe you should stick with the grey scheme. Choose one color scale and stick with it. Don´t be tempted to add colour to the sky.

GREAT!
Must be given some stars.
I like your strange and special method to express.

05-23-2002, 04:00 PM
Hey that's starting to look really cool!
I actually think the colour is cool (the blue sky) - you should use those nasty shades of pink and green that you always get in those old games as well.
What kind of creature are you going to do? You should do a couple of little Bubble Bobble style dragons! :bounce:

The Time Serpent

Putois_Blagueur
05-23-2002, 05:22 PM
I think you should scale all the pixels so they have the same size. It would be nice to see a beautiful dragon in this gameboy forest.... no ?

hypercube
05-23-2002, 05:48 PM
That totally rules. Awesome concept. I think if you do go for colour I'd try for like 16 or under, very super mario. Look forward to seeing how this turns out.

I like the effect of the unreflected reflection, too..maybe add a pixel line around the lake so it matches?

stereo
05-24-2002, 07:01 PM
i m happy to see that many people like this concept.

i m preparing 3 creatures: ground air water and a erally bad one that want to destroy the forest

here are some inspiration:

kirby mario norman mc laren(typo) and old japanese toys like this one that i think it would be perfect but non pixel looking
i m hesitating about colors(16).....

see U:hmm:

this is a new render test:

so that we could better see under the trees.
i deleted montains and made a map also like in old 8 bits games
i also tried colors(16) but it wasn t satisfy..

thanks again to pay attention to this graphical aspect.:wavey:

i had an idea yesterday: in fact this forest could be the home of all characters from famous classic olg 8 bits games?

Very cool, and really original! :bounce:

I really like your design but I got just one or two comments:

-Why not creating your objects with a box per pixel, not just extruding 2d shapes, it could let you add some volume to your shapes ...
-I think some holes between the branches of the tree could be interesting ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

merci encore ++

05-26-2002, 12:11 PM

weiiiird!

the question marks... I'd say ditch them , the thing that makes things seem busy is that they have the illusion of having a little life in there. The marks make it seem like they are all clueless

forcing jaggies, now that's different, I think one of the issues may be the jaggy levels, like on Yoshi he is very jagged, but the robot is only a little bit ya know

keep it up:beer:

You just allarmed me to make some backup of my own stuff.
Did you know that in adapect Cd creator there is a little programm
with which you can format your CD and then burn files to the Cd by only draging it to the CD burner and then when you don't close the CD( burn it so no files can be added) ( the name is CD Wizard) really handy
this way you can keep your backups and don't have to burn every time a new CD.
To bad your scene was deleted. I really liked it but it got a bit over crowded. or lets say I had teh feeling that the characters were put randomly in the scene.

wel good luck next challenge and with finding a new Job/company

ZrO-1
06-24-2002, 05:17 AM
In windows that program is called "Direct CD" you can 'directCD-format' a CD-RW (not sure about CD-R) that woks like a floppy or Zip disk. You don't have to burn the whole CD at once. It's a nice feature, but it is slower than doing a full burn.

I'm not trying to stir a hornet's nest but come on, how does this get 4 stars? The idea is cool but this is not the 80's (if you know what I mean).

I don't mean to offend Stereo but from your Avatar i'm sure you could do better than this:)
