Thought I'd take a serious go at "Fun With a Pencil" by Andrew Loomis. So far I haven't really used the techniques I've studied to create original sketches, I'm more or less just following the books instruction at this point.

It's definitely getting me away from how I typically go about sketching, which feels incredibly refreshing!

I am definitely learning a lot from this so far! It's amazing what a little practice can do for the spirit.

The road is long, my steps are short, but I'll get there.

The point of these exercises was to construct the baby heads from reference within the book.

@Rabid1: Thank you for the kind comment!

Unfortunately today was a day bogged down by other life stuff, and I wasn't able to devote more time than the following sketches.

The section of the book I'm starting to get into is teaching his "Ball and Plane" method. Essentially it's creating a ball for the head, cutting off the sides, and creating a plane for the face extending from the brow-line. He provides a lot of images to re-construct using his method, and definitely encourages you to draw what ever your imagination can come up with!

The following images are basically just "notes", I have a lot more practice to do with this method!

Edit: I just wanted to add a little self-critique:

I need to think about each stroke I place down more. Right now I tend to either draw a lot of little lines, which are fine for beginning the drawing I think, but not for finishing it, or I draw solid lines without giving much thought or care as to their placement.
I need to use more eraser so that I can finish off the drawings properly, and so I can clean up those tiny lines I tend to draw at first.
I think thus far I have been doing a decent job of using the reference material provided in the book, but I catch myself working towards duplicating the final image instead of developing it from the ground up.

I hate it when life stuff creeps in! But, here are some more.

I think I'm in the mindset that I need to create something fast -- I want instant gratification. I'm trying to consciously slow the process down a bit and analyze wtf I'm doing a little, but... well... I definitely have room for improvement!
