- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody. If you're registered on the forums you can participate.
- Every week you get a list of items. Pick at least one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model. Speed is key!
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the week passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- For the concept items you have to create your own designs. If possible post the design images as well.

Basic items (2h)
- hotdog stand,
- a tree house,
- a spider,
- an eel,
- a power saw.

Concept items (3h)
- jewellery : wedding ring
- weapon : needs to fire lasers
- your "dream" computer case

Here's my go at this one. It was originally made as a caustics text a year or so ago. But the modeling of it took about 2 hours. So I thought I'd throw it up and I'll do one of the others properly when I have time later this week. The ramp on the blend from the yellow to white gold didn't quite work in the render. It's supposed to gradually fade from yellow to white, but oh well. You get the idea.

Hello,
I am going to begin with a very small presentation because it's my first participation on CGtalk.
My name is Corentin, i'm 22 years old and I'm actually in my first year in 3D school (ESTEI) in Bordeaux.

It's my first participation to a Speed Modelling Session too :)
I accept all your critics and your comments, They must be numerous ;)

Welcome all to the SMC. Your submissions look pretty good.

The only thing I would change is the number of edgeloops on the roof of the hot dog stand. It's a bit heavy for the amount of details it has. I would decrease the number of the horizontal lines at least. Other than that it looks pretty good.

I like the initial design of the treehouse, but I think you could add some more branches to bring it a bit more to life, bit more natural. Apart from that it's looking good!

Wireframe rendering: Which software are you using?

Thanks, I was thinking about adding the branches but was running out of time.

I'm using 3ds max! ;)

Sorry can't help you out with 3DS Max ^^

You can still finish it after the competition, hope I'll have the time to make a Treehouse this weekend...

Do you guys think we should have longer challenges? 10 days or 2 weeks instead of just 7 days?

I also like the treehouse idea, looks very interesting. With more branches it will look even better.

Two weeks isn't a bad idea. Though I think we should have a few more objects if we do since there will be half the amount of challenges

Ok, 14 days it is. I will also increase the amount of items to model (probably to ten). Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I screwed up a bit. I didn't put up a notification that we're also extending this challenge. The new challenge will be up on Tuesday. Happy modelling!
