Hi, I have posted a similar thread in the general modelling forum but now I think the problems are maya based so I hope the mods don't mind me posting here.

I'm trying to model this wheel (http://www.evoposters.net/carpics/doms-golf/P1010030.jpg) ;

Here is my poly (http://www.domholmes.f2s.com/poly.JPG) mesh

Here is the mesh converted to sub-d (http://www.domholmes.f2s.com/creased.JPG) and creases inserted in the appropriate places

The problem is I don't want the crease (circled) to be hard but when I make it a partial crease I get wrinkles all along the edge (sorry i forgot to take a pic) Like dimples in a piece of folded paper. I also tried the method described in the maya help docs of refining the edges several times then uncreasing to create a variable crease, this also had the same dimples.

Any suggestions how to make a not so hard edge but without having it go all dimpley?

Many thanks

Dom.

Have you tried it without the triangulation?
I always thought subD's worked better with quads....
Havent messed with them enough yet to know.....

Yes. Allways work with quads together with subDs.

ok thanks i'll try that. Only problem is I will have a lot of non-planar surfaces if i convert to quads, Whats the easiest way to fix this?

You mean non-planar quads? That's no problem.
