Hey guys!
I have an old SGI O2 R10000 but no keyboard and no monitor! now is there any "cheep" way to hook up any modern keyboard/monitor
or do I have to buy some old SGI stuff for it to work?

Any keyboard and mouse with ps2 will be ok. You donīt need any special SGI stuff. Even if itīs cool ;-)

You will need a monitor adapter. SGI use the old 13W3 style connectors.
This will get you up and running for video:

...of course the next logical question is what are you going to do with it, since an SGI machine isn't remotely fast by today's standards.

Phew, I was expecting to read another "What SGI machine should I buy so I can be good at 3D?" thread.

I can't fault you for that - there is definitely something geeky-cool about saying that you have an SGI, just the reality kicks in and you realize that it's almost useless for any type of real work. I've searched through plenty of eBay auctions that have tempted me into buying some ancient computer hardware.... my personal weakness is old-school Commodore Amiga systems. Been tempted more than a few times.

Not to mention software downloads and licensing to get running.
If its not loaded already you may not find many venders willing or able to help with your blast from the past. Just think about it-ya gotta find some poor old tech support guy who can still throw back to the mid 90's.
Thanks guys for your help!
- well, I have Softimage 3D installed and it's more of memory lane kind of thing for me
it was one of the first 3D apps I learned
it says Microsoft on the box but I think I upgraded to 3.7 or 3.8 and then it was Avid! hehe...
-oh and it's the "extreme" version :D
thanks again...

Mine plays Doom really well :)
Make sure the monitor you buy has the appropriate refresh rates and sync-on-green or at least sog compatible/tolerant. I picked up a 19 Sony Trinitron for $50 (+plus $30 shipping it is a beast) on ebay a while back.

Seeing as how cellphones now a days are powerful enough to run Quake, saying that it can play Doom is not much of an accomplishment :p
... and actually it's a hell of an eye-opener in terms of how much CPU technology has advanced.
