Hello fellow animators,

I'm doing a 3D animation short and is finally reaching the end. Right now my animation is only missing the audio part (thus why I put it here) but in any case, I would like to hear any comments & critiques about it.

To start off, I have zero animation skills when I started my degree. The only 3D experience I had was making simple polygons and moving vertices in 3DsMax. Now I'm learning Maya full fledge.

The animation is about Budi who just realised he's late and that cost him his job. But later that day, he saved a man from a nearby alley who in return, gave him a better job at his previous office.

Note: I'm experimenting the use of cel-shaded textures as well for this animation with contour outline in the mix.

hi
umm.. try to add some more weight to your animations.
push the down poses more when the characters are walking/running.
by "down" pose I mean the pose in which the character's center of gravity (the hip?) is at its lowest point.
just out of curiosity, where did you get the characters/rigs from?

if you want some friendly advice, take a look at one of the best animation books available:
The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams (http://www.amazon.com/Animators-Survival-Kit-Revised-Principles-Classical/dp/0571238343/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266901237&sr=1-1)

also, it was hard to see the gangster stab the protagonist in the back with the knife. maybe try to push that a little bit more.

another piece of friendly advice: if you can tell a story well without sound, then your final product will be even more believable once you add the sound.

Thanks for the comments and advice Sergi. It will help a lot in my other future work as this one is closing to submission.

As for the characters/rigs, it's made from scratch. It's not perfect but I'll make a more improve version in the future. Everything is trial and error. :D

And here's the version with sound.

First off, very cool you made a short no matter the quality. It takes a lot of energy to finish anything of the sort. The story moves along a bit to quick for my taste and I only got whats going on because of your outline you wrote. The animation is floaty but would only require some fixes here and there to really polish up your short. Practice holding poses and such to get used to conveying personality and mood of characters over time, if you keep it up you'll have a great short on your hands. Still good work... I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Congratz on making a short! I like the toon style, that was a good idea considering the scope and amount of places. I would exaggerate some of the poses a bit more and hold in some places like where he gets hit by the car, he recovers really quickly. If you tweek some of the flouting and hold some of the poses a bit, you will have a killer animation! Great job!
