View Full Version : Help: Skin modifier tips&problems
Hello, I have done a character and the bone rigging and I have animated it. But my problem is the skin, the modifier "skin". I donīt like the results with "skin" modifier, i have a lot of problems with bones and their influence and gizmoīs too. I would like that somebody tell me about skin tips, or alternative plug-ins for this think.
Thanks to all.

I think I can guess what the problem might be because I had a similar problem with animating in Max using skin or character studio. The problem I had was that the joints (especially the pelvic region) would not deform like skin would, instead they would kind of wrinkle. What I did was revert back to my original poly mesh (before the meshsmooth) and have the bones animated that, I then added the meshsmooth modifier after. I hopefully that this is the problem you are asking about.
mmm... yes, one of the problems are this, and i did the same that you are tell me, and this is a good solution. other region with problems were pectorals. but I would like to know some tips for this part of animation, and information about posible plug-ins.
I have seen Absolute Character and it looks very cool. Bones Pro are a good plug-in??
Bye people, and thanks.

If you are animating with the low-res mesh remember to have enough points at the joints, for example 3 edges for a knee. To help with problem points use the vertex commands.
I haven't used bones pro very much but it does have some very useful tools like a deformable muscle type tool where you can make muscles or bones for the skin to stretch over. Character Studio can also be a very powerful tool.
