View Full Version : Networking betwixt schools
joel96 02-20-2010, 02:47 PM There's tens of thousands of filmmakers out there, thousands of students, and dozens of schools with film and animation programs. I can't talk to the CalArts students, and they can't talk to the DigiPen students. I don't understand why there isn't a push for schools to agree to support a simple little PHP/MySQL community site, or even one on the ASIFA member sites. Do you schools feel like you could get together on behalf of your students? How about you students, don't you want to pick up what you're missing from other schools? Cooperation helps everyone, even if the school is a direct competitor.

Yeah and there is documentation about inter cooperation flying about. The reality is it is hard to keep up a decent service for your own customers. There is always a terrible juggling act of customers demanding superior quality while complaining about high prices.
It's the hardest bizz I have seen for a while.

Read my post again, Chris. I'm talking about schools and individuals communicating with other schools and individuals. I'm not talking about the animation industry, I'm talking about the animators, directors, producers, writers, betweeners, texture artists, modelers, etc. Specifically, the huge number of indie films needs to be taken online so distance is not a factor in production. We see the results on any video hosting site, but the production has not been taken to a forum setting.

No you are right. I thought you were talking about a communication system between schools and students.
