View Full Version : some questions to the lightwave users
Skamierski 02-19-2010, 05:57 PM hi my name is chris, i havent worked with lightwave yet.
but i am thinking about to integrate it in my
pipeline of other main 3d packages.
does lightwave posess a good rigging and animation pipeline?
Has it the tools for advanced character animation?
Or do i have to script most things myself?
best regards
chris

I use Lightwave, Blender and Cinema4D. Blender has arguably the 'best' rigging and animation tools of the three, Lightwave is a 'better' renderer, and Cinema4D offers the 'best' motion graphics animation and model painting tools. But Lightwave has been used a lot for character animation as well. Blender is often used by Lightwave users as a sort of character animation 'plugin' via mmd (pointoven). And scripting is best in Blender (python) of the three.
Really, it all depends on your own preferences and stuff. Look at this:

Lightwave for rendering, Blender for character animation, texturing and uv mapping, Max for modelling.
The industry seems to go for Maya when they are talking about rigging and char animation.
Short answer: yes, Lightwave has good, though not brilliant, character rigging tools. That's why Messiah:Animate came into being. Perhaps you should have look at that one, if rigging is important:

Or have a look at Blender (least expensive option).

In a nutshell, not at present.
For rigging and C.A., whilst it can be done in LW, I'd say look at other package such as XSI, especially if you've not already bought a package. Or if money is an issue, as hvanderwegen says, look at Blender.

i really appreciate your both posts, thank you
i think its gonna be a mix between blender lightwave and fprime :)
xsi is too expensive for my budget
thanks n cheers
In addition, there are LOADS of tutorials available that show how to do just about anything in Lightwave.

Thanks for the link to our project hvanderwegen.
*small clarification- UV texture was done in Modo/PS.

I used our exiting animation Tal did for the previous clip.
This one is setup and render in Modo comp in AE.
As always...some things need fixing, but it's coming along.
