I've got my construction history turned off since I hardly use it at all. The strange thing is that every now and then an object still ends up with a construction history, how can I prevent this from happening?

Hallo Marcel

I don't know if you count the output connection of your nodes to the construction history. Because these kind of connections must be stayed intact. Like if you skinned your character to a skeleton, in this case you don't wan't the construction history to be deleted.

So far I'm not doing anything more than modelling (and texturing) so there is no fancy stuff going on with external connections.
It just fills the history with names like 'PolyTweak' 'PolySplit', all modelling stuff (and tons of it.)

It's no big deal, I'll live with deleting my history every now and then. Thanks for the help!

Doing poly splits with MJPolyTools( and possibly other operations with scripts) will turn on history on an object. It does this so you can select that history node and adjust the slide value. And once it is turned on it remembers everything you do, not just the initial operation that turned it on.

I don't believe there is any way of keeping it from happening.

It could also be that the history stays in the scene because the MJPolyTools were not made for Maya 4.5 and 5.0.
And therefore they are not being removed by Maya versions higher then 4.0.

You don't work with history?

Heathen!

I have DelHistory bound to Ctrl+Alt+0. You never know when you may have to go back and tweak :)

I have indeed been using the 'Split around Verts/Edges' function in MJPolytools. (good to know that the split function can be tweaked afterwards, didn't know that either)
You've solved the mystery for me, thanks Electrofirma and Galactor!

Rhonedog, I don't find much use for the history when I'm doing an organic model, it only slows Maya down. I'm doing very small modelling changes at a time so if I mess up I can use the normal undo.
