View Full Version : Ran out of memory (9GB)
Sybexmed 02-19-2010, 06:00 AM Why did Zbrush crash on me? My mesh isn't even dense and i have 9GB of RAM. I'm running Zbrush 3.5R3 64 bit version.

There isn't a specific 64bit version of zbrush. On a 64bit operating system it can still only use up to 4GB ram.

This is os prob?
Your message is small.
If not your os, mudbox 35 millions of polys for a character, all 64, 12GB.
Same for Zb in import to other app.
T------v.
there is no "real" 64 bit version of zbrush...
it cant handle more than 4gig ram...

While I know tehre isn't a 64bit version, I was under the impression that ZB did some crazy under hood tricks to take advantage of more RAM than 32bit normall allows for.
Sounds unlikely I know, but Ofer Alon is such a crazy/mad genius/innovator type, I thought it might be true.

I think Zbrush is crazy, for a 32bit app it can handle alot of polies. in mud 2009 64bit I can up to 30 million on my 4gb ram, in zbrush 3.5 r3 I can sculpt up to 50, thats insane for a 32bit app :P. On a single subtool I once subd up to 36. crazy under hood tricks for sure.

Mudbox uses the video card Tin-Tin, where as ZBrush does not, which card do you have?
