View Full Version : Still/3D/character/texturing practice
(...) 09-01-2003, 06:49 PM Hi all,
I've recently been learning how to paint face textures in Photoshop, in my never-ending quest to make a skin shader that doesn't suck.
I reckon my latest effort is quite decent, so I'm posting it for valuable crits and comments.

Wow, 93 views and no replies. The kiss of death. :(
I mean if the image sucks, I'd rather someone just say so. At least then I'd know where I stand. But having the thread plummet without a trace just makes me feel ashamed for posting it.

I think it looks very good indeed, but the ear is slightly odd. It is hard to pin down exactly what is wrong, but it looks kinda plasticy. Maybe some tweaking of the material settings. Apart from that it looks realistic

The shader itself looks good and the textures are good too. The hair looks badly drawn, though. Especially the eyebrows.

Grr. I know what that is. I got the spec map on there, but I've also got an oily-skin map in there (for the nose, cheeks, forehead and lips), but I've just set them too high.
I've fixed it a bit now based on everyone's comments, does this look better?

Hi, sorry to be cranky pete here, but if you are looking for suggestions you put this in the wrong forum. For really good critiques, you need to post in the WIP, or even better, the Focused Critiques forum. This forum is really for viewers who like to look at finished products and not have to give suggestions on them.
I think you will get way more response on those forums, even if they have lower viewership, since the people that browse them want to give suggestions.
Thanks!
