View Full Version : Green Screen Use on TV
webhead 02-18-2010, 12:03 AM I must admit, the extent that green screen was used in a few of these shots surprised me:

You know, that's really cool (I love VFX, no matter where I see it)... but what really amazes me is how well they match the lighting, focus, and color. I enjoyed that, thanks. :)

I saw this a while ago and I was stunned. I mean, I knew it was possible, but I never even suspected that green screen usage was that widespread. It reminds me of a fake Michael Bay screenplay (for Batman?), that had something along the lines of "an American flag (CG) flaps in the wind".

that was really good, i had no idea they used a green screen on so many of the local tv shows.

holy shit indeed.. i DID keep asking myself in the past how they did a couple of those outdoor stuff for law+order, mostly the ones in front of the court, since they do appear quite often on the show and i figured they couldnt close off the thing the whole time.. but this..

I think thats simply the reason - in the meantime it seems to be easier and probably more important: cheaper to do it with greenscreen, compared to close off entire blocks of a city.

umm yes. i am aware of that.. but not knowing the exact locations id figured they would use some old abandoned library and dress it up a bit like they do a lot on other shows.. it is still kind of baffling to me that the whole thing is actually cheaper and easier to do in postproduction in some cases..

The Ugly Betty sequence amazes me the most. COMPLETELY green. Seriously?! I understand wanting control over the shot, but it seems impractical to plan it out like that. I underestimated what goes into making the tv shows I skip over.
Great find. I'd be interested to read/watch more on how those shots are produced, if anyone has more info.
