View Full Version : Spot light will not render.

Hey, I am trying to get this spot lighting to light up my scene like the sun. The problem is that my render is completely black. But when I put the spot light real close it brightly lights up a small portion of my scene. The thing that stumps me is the fact that in shaded view the light seems to affect the scene when far away but not in the render...

Anyone know what is causing this and how to solve it? Light strength is set to 7. I've also scaled up the light and made the circle larger. There is a line that comes out of the light in the direction of the ray that I think might have something to do with it, but I'm not sure how to solve this problem.

Thanks for any replies.

I am not very familiar with blender but it might be the falloff inverse or inverse square is probably making your light attenuate too quickly.

If you're going to "simulating" the sun, you'll want to set your lamp's falloff to Constant.

While the light falloff from the real sun follow the same physics as light everywhere, the distances involved make it negligible for us. The distance between you and something else you can see in your immediate vicinity is less than .00000001 of the distance the sunlight has already traveled to get to you in the first place. Thus, the attenuation from you to that other object is imperceptible. So, when attempting to mimic an extremely distant light source, use Constant falloff.
