View Full Version : Enchanted Forest - Environment- Batmanuel
Batmanuel 05-21-2002, 02:15 PM This one sounds like a good time.
So here's a quick sketch of what my main trees will look like. For the inside of the psudo leaf structure, it'll resemble a butterfly wing with transparency and such.
Hope you dig it--

I didn't quite get what you were referring to for a bit....but now I'm laughing quite hard. Perhaps the subconscious has peeked it's ugly head out :)

This scene will be be constructed all in Maya. I'm hoping to make an animation out of it later on.

Well...here's the first primitive image of the tree. Gotta connect the butterfly leaf and coccoon to the main branch yet...

batmanuel, now you can see who i'm refering to:scream: :D
you use nurbs,or subbdivision surfaces?
Batmanuel
05-22-2002, 02:57 PM
hahaha;)
Everything at this point is NURBS. I haven't decided if I'll use Sub-D's or not due to my poor texturing skills.
Here's a tiny update. The trees will be heavily shrouded in the thick vines and intricate folliage.

i think that if you got poor skills in texturing, stay with nurbs, subbdivisions surface allow only 2 texturing methods:planar & automatic......wonderfull:thumbsdow
So it will be more simple with nurbs,....it's my opinion.
nice start,it's gonna look great:bounce: :bounce:

I completely agree with sticking with NURBS due to ease of texturing. I am considering some Sub-D modeling, convert to Poly, then possibly take it into Deep UV...then Deep Paint 3D (though I've got these programs on order and who knows when they'll arrive).
I've heard that the next implimentation of Maya will have a Convert Sub-D to NURBS function...which just makes my mouth water:drool:
Thanks for the kind words, and thanks to you to Leigh...I may need some input from you later on about texturing and such. So nice to have a Goddess as a resource:cool:

Very kind of you:thumbsup:
Do you have a website or portfolio deal that I can check out? I always enjoy seeing well textured images (though it just makes me more jealous). BTW, I really liked your grotesque Anubis:p

Got a bit further on the tree this afternoon. There's a lot of tweeking to do...along with adding quite a few more vines and detail to the butterfly leaf structure.

Sorry it's been so long since my last post...work has become hectic. I haven't had much time to work on my forest, but I've gotten just a bit more done. I'm planning on having a bunch of these trees coming out of a lagoon that has a waterfall feeding it. Still needs the texturing work done and some other foliage coming out of the water trough part.
Hope you dig it.

Can I ask what kind of drug you used to get a trip like this???
Batmanuel

No drugs, I just stared at your glowing hand and it hypnotised me into a euphoric state of complete consciousness:surprised

Hopefully I'll be able to get you a nice render soon.

you know, i render in maya as well. I know the lighting and rendering system can be harsh at times...even more so after seeing these guys with G.I. lighting and killer programs like Brazil. Have you ever herd of G.I.joe? Maybe you should try it...its ben working really well for me. It's what I have used to texture the objects in my post.

Yeah, GI_joe is pretty awesome. The only thing I don't like about it is that unless you have something to suggest the size, it makes the model look small.

I've tried an earlier version of G.I. JOE about a year ago on some architectural visualization stuff I did...and liked the results. At this point I haven't fully conceptualized the lighting for the scene (though I know I should have a good idea by now). It'll all work out in the end.
I know what you mean about salivating over Brazil...I would like to see this work with Maya. I'm pretty sure that Mental Ray is working with Alias|Wavefront right now about integrating their rendering system somehow. Guess we'll just have to wait a bit:thumbsdow
