this a comic page a friend drew, and I made the color. I'll use it as references for this callenge, I'm going to make the same thing in 3d, well I'll try.

edit: don't know why, the pic doesn't load with me, but when I copy the link, it does, so here it is:

Wonderfull setting!
It should rock in 3D, propably quite a challenge as well :)
hehe, the woman in the comic looks like a Super Saiyajin.
I can't wait to see more of your work.
Have fun! :bounce:

this is what I've already done.
Yeah no tree yet, but I'm working on it.

Edit: it's only bump map. No diffuse yet, but i think it already looks ok

Jebus! Couldn't see the concept pic before, always "due to high server demand, etc."

The wip is looking SWEET! and very true to style. Love the detail. Can't wait to see how it looks chunked up with stuff growing through it.

P.S. what's the page from? is it out anywhere yet? humanoids?

Thank you guys. As you may have guessed, I'm trying to make the middle strip. I've made this column in the foreground before leaaving home. I won't get back until sunday evening, so no updates until monday. I was wondreing if any of you texture gods could give me advises for the color map. There is only bump map, used as a color mix map, but I would like to make I real diffuse map, but I don't really know what to do.

This page is from a french comic called Slhoka. It was drawn by a friend, Adrien Floch, and I borrowed him this page, to practce coloring. the original colors are very different, with very dark gray stones.

Crap! I'm in trouble! :D

If you keep this level of quality, I don't see how I'd be able to beat you...
The only thing ?I'd say is that the tops of the pillars look way to blurry.

Other than that....
Bummer.

Wow, really nice! I too am going to keep my eye on this entry. I agree with Howard day on the tops being a tad blurry.

Amusedtoe- You said, "mother of pearl!" I love that, I always use that phrase at school when I'm pissed at something or when I'm excited about something. Either way a good phraze.

alright man your off to a hot start,
i wouldn't recomend doing a complete diffuse makeover. it looks so good with with just the pro. shader and bump, i would just recomend making a diffuse map as a grunge map maybe with a bit of its own bump looking like a little bit of diffused-dirt and bumped-erosian.

you could use your original bump map as the template, find\make some nice images of dirt, cracks, moss, or whatever and paint them onto a copy of your bump-template, then mask out the parts you dont want to use and mix them into a layered texture. be careful though when putting different materials on top of one another because some materials might require different base-shaders (ie. phong, lambert, cook-torrance , etc.)

if i knew what kind of soft-ware you were using i might be able to help more.

BTW, if you wanted to just make a diffuse map, all you would have to do is take that bump-template and paint it the same way you painted the concept illustration, in photoshop or whatever.
personally i think that could detract from the crispness of the image your already getting though. . .

i hope that helps a little
its starting off looking really nice... im subscribed keep it up

looks good! I really like the way the bridge looks already...

BTW: You're not the same Dr.Jones that is texturing my Sebulba model, are you?

Thank for such reply. I'm sorry not to answaer sooner. I'm a little bit busy those day, exams soon, so I've update it a lot. I've done the pilar in the foreground, and now I'm working on some trees. The big trees will be modeled, while most will be done with a tree generator.
I'll update it as asoon as possible, but, I'm working on Wedge's Sebulba model, and I would like to finished it first.

Wedge: I had no problem to import it into max, but when I try to export, it does keep mapping coordinates. So I can make very cool stuff, using cylindrical maps and unwrap them. I'm making a planar map, so you wont have problem to apply it. I've almost finished the bump map.

Very nice!!!

I think you did a good job on the colouring, but the modelling and texturing is really great!!! The texture seems to be allmost the same as in the comic page, cool!

Tres bien!!!
