heres my concept
its the tree equivalent of a dying old man, enchanted!
basically the story is this tree is nearing the end of its life and has one last wish that it would like to see happen before it can peacefully move onto the afterlife (burkes backyard).
i may in the end model some form of creature listening to the tree's wish.
but for the time being the focus is on the tree and making it look good
i want to leave this earth with at least one 3d model looking fabulous
right now i have 0 under my belt lol :wip:
oh well time to hit the polys and make some.. polys?
by the way
its jsut a quick concept drawing
so dont laugh too loud!

He,
I know you are in the beginning stage of your consept but I just had some idea's.
If you just had a root coming in the front of the image --> see PIC
and if you added a glowing line aroound the tree or some sort of line that goes from normal to tinner as the tree goes( higher).
Well take a look at the image.
By the way I never work with photshop so don't lookatthe collors and pain'tstrokes.
Í like the Idea

Hey Mark :)
That is a very cool idea  Better start modelling soon! Your concept will require a lot of work to convey the emotional side of the situation...
It will be cool to make the face look like an old man, with loads of wrinkles and droopy eyes....

Iguiniz.X.: thanks for the tip dude!:)

Hey Mark :) Your tree looks like it's off to a good start  As for the leaves, that really depends on what your computer can handle.
Ideally it's best to actually model all the leaves, but obviously that would take loads of memory... Alternatively, you could use a particle system, which would be far easier for your machine to handle. It's really up to you.
Then just slap some cool colour, bump and translucency maps on them and voila! Cool leaves! :scream:

finished modelling the volume
just need to know whether you think the tree should be fat or normalness
heres the normal thickness one:

He that is looking good. Using MAX like Me!
I see I didn't explain why I added the root in front of my attached image but I did it so you get more perspectice. I mean with the camara position you have in the photo shop image. You get more drawn in the image.
Are you moddeling the face later on or you leave it as if a magic paper took controll over the tree. ( like in 3x3 Eyes, <-- it's a manga)
mrmark
05-25-2002, 12:35 PM
Iguiniz.X.: lol nah im gonna model the face,i think it will look much better than a 5 minute map ;)
i see what you mean aboutthe drawn in business, i will definately incorporate the root into the whole feel of the image if i go for that camera angle, but to tell u the truth im not sure which camera angle im gonna go for yet. so dont be fooled by the camera angle of the model shottts
and thanks!!

ahh the bouncy smilies...
theres an idea for the next challenge, smileyS!! haha

i think the next step is making the other trees
i have an idea for emotive effect
gonna have a couple of tree stumps near the old man tree so that it shows that he doesn't have much time left at all, old age or a chainsaw is gonna get him fairly soooon
poor fellow

 He I see ou have updated, yes it has been ages.
Well I see you made the ground
I think if it is a clay ground you won't have that much bumps in the ground I think you could make it more plannar and were the land goes away from the river side it can rize and be bumpy but spread over a larger m2.
further as I see correct there is a bridge and there will be water in the image which flows under the bridge. am I right?
maybe it is a idea to keep the environment close to the tree so it wil be less work and if you want to make the tree feel lonely you might have a circle aound him withouth trees only grass for example or dead wood of lets say 5M
keep on the good work
C ya arround
P.S
to fininsh my story
the way you tell story is often the way you handle it in your mind. well if not understood it might be beter I mail U about it or PM

Ummmm... I don't know if you've explained this somewhere already, and I just missed it, but why is there a picture of a face on the tree? :surprised

Does this concept remind anyone of the Night Elves from Warcraft III? Not sure if anyone here has played the beta and if not DO IT, anyway yea neat idea.:D
mrmark
06-12-2002, 01:59 AM
Inguiniz.X.:hey! i will most definiately use that idea of the 5m circle around him. maybe even have dry, brown grass? and yep thats gonna be where water is flowing
:)
Leigh: the picture of the face is just a placeholder pretty much, coz i havent modelled the head yet. i need a reference photo of an old man! i cant find one anywhere! please help me leigh! surely a goddess like yourself can use your superspeed to get a poor teen like me a reference foto?? lol:p youve probs got better things to do though, id be incredibly greatful anywaysss:beer:
Aroundthefur: i havent played it? where can i get the beta? blizzard.com or something?? and thanks!
:bounce:
oh btw im not gonna keep the awesomely fabulous glowing spheres, im gonna model some lo poly fairys!

Looking cool so far. Like the little mushrooms and the sort of aurora effect in the sky. Low poly fairies ought to work well, just get the suggestion of shape in the glow..cool beans.
Here's a link farley_13 posted in another thread, lots of (insanely large) pics of old/oldish gov't people with faces like 5 miles of bad road. Found it a great reference while modeling the head I'm doing (over in the WIP), and it's also handy for scaring small children!

I see that your 3D thing is a lot of work so I had a idea, that I stole, Whahahah.
A lot of people in the challenge use a camera postition and only add stuff that can be seen by the camera this way you won't have to create the whole environment and still have a nice picture, and finally have less work on it.
Justa idea:beer:

i guess i had better pick a nice dynamic camera angle then!:)

06-14-2002, 03:31 PM
hey thanks hypercube!!
i finished modelling fairy
didn't spend much time on it
its only to give general shape of glow so its not that important
any crits still welcome though
also had a go at the DOF in the brazil test - makes a crap model look less crap :) ;) ;)

that's a funny little character model you have there. Hehehe the proportions are amusing and it should be neat to see it in the piece.
