Just stubled onto this one it is a free raytracing software developed with primary support of U.S department of energy and Swiss government. You can simulate electric lighting and get this star light NASA uses it! Check it out lots of info and tutorials on how to use it. I saw it over at CGarchitect one of the guys there uses it and loves it heres the link

I have taken a look at the page. Seems that it is for UNIX, and, quote: Generally, the package is well-suited to programmers and people with a high degree of computer proficiency. The interface is command-based in a fashion that is familiar to UNIX users, but uncomfortable for many who are used to the menus and point-and-click interfaces of modern software.

I took a look at the manual, and I prefer, as they call it, "point and click work".:wavey:
