View Full Version : What is the Halo in this Blender Documentation page for?

In the Rendering Feature (http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-246/rendering-features/)s page, which talks about Zmask Rendering. One can download the Blender file (http://download.blender.org/demo/test/zmask_compo.blend). Inside you can find a cube set to render as a Halo (reason why it only shows its 4 vertices in the 3d view). However, this object won't show when the render is done. Moreover, keeping it from rendering won't make a difference either. Which makes me wonder: was it something that was forgotten in the scene (meant to be erased). Or does it have an actual purpose?

Thanks guys,

JDL

It looks like a simple accident ... doesn't seem to have anything to do with the feature being discussed there.

hi, i just tested the file, which is a composting node example for Blender 2.6.
It works with Blender 2.49b also.
the file is directly related to the feature.
it renders all the images on the feature page exactly as they are.

Thank you guys :)

MA, not that I intend to refute what you said, but I erased the halo obj (Cube.002) and the scene rendered the same
It could just be that my being so new to compositing in general, and with Blender just doesn't help me here. If so, could you please enlighten us as to what it is exactly that I might have missed?

Thanks in advance,

JDL

Yes, but javierdl's point is that there is an unused cube in the scene, with a Halo material ... it doesn't belong there, it's not needed for the scene to render correctly.

hmm, ok,
just delete them, they do nothing.
If you go to scene (F10)
then look at the render layers,
there should be scenes: zmask, character & grass in the menu.
you can go to the grass scene & halo is turned off.
The halo object is in the same render layer as the grass.
so turn on halo to see the object render.
this object was probably a test object to see how halo's work or not using zmask & the compositor.

Thanks for the explanation MA :)
I did turn the Halo on as you suggested. And even increased its strength. But it's still not visible.
Do I need to add a node of some sort in the noodle maybe?

Just curious to learn about nodes and compositing.
