as far as i remember there is a car-tutorial in the XSI2-Tutorialsection @ softimage.com
Something called "From Cube to Car in 60s!". But I am not sure if it was polygon-based or something else.
NURBS car? you must be kidding :-)
NURBS in XSI are not the best choice to do car.
I try some cars in XSI with XSI but when you try to add details with trim surface a had big problems.
So you choice - if you would work with XSI SubDs are only one choice, if you like NURBS you must go to MAYA :-(

The '4-sided' and 'Curve Net' NURBS tools in XSI work very similar to the spline patching method in LW (but with history and the curve endpoints don't need to be connected) Of course they produce NURBS surfaces, not poly meshes, but you can easily convert them using either the inbuilt NURBS to mesh tool or the RCTools convertor. Also you can leave them as NURBS surfaces, and when your model is complete, you can stitch them together either as NURBS or get a 'merged' poly mesh from it.
