View Full Version : [MR] Glass render
madmenno 02-08-2010, 12:27 PM Hi!
I'm trying to render a glass but the light doesn't seem to travel trough the opacive material and therefor doesn't create caustic shadows on the plane below it.
I have raytraced shadows on and tried the MR glass material and just a normal raytraced material.

the only Max Trace Depth i could find is within the render options dialog. I pushed it from 5 to 10, no changes.
I can play with the "index of refr:" inside the raytrace material and put it on 1.4, that seems to replace the black spots inside the glass for grayspots. Some weak caustics are showing now on the surface.
[edit]
And again i can't upload an image, is there something wrong with cgsociety or am i doing something wrong?

There are also trace depth settings on the light.
If you want caustics, you need to enable caustic in the render globals and have the light shoot caustic photons.
I'm not sure why you're having issues posting images.

Have you tried the A&D mat ? There are max trace depth settings in the A&D material, in the advanced rendering options rollout. Just raising the global max trace depth will not help if the material's trace depth is still set to low.

Mike
