I created 2 seprate poly meshes and I attached them and now when I try to weld the vertices they won't weld. Where did I go wrong?

You have to first delete the polys where the welding will take place. For example if you try to weld 2 cubes together you must delete the polys on the side of the box that is being joined to the other.
