I really like the look of this model so far. The modeling/detail is looking good and if you maintain this level of quality throughout you will finish with a real winner.
This guy looks like he has a lot of character, love your style! Keep up the good work.

the head looks great.
I also love the look of it so far.
For the body... hmm
Since he's a sea lord, make him a mermaid kinda body. I mean with a fin, but the torso nice and strong.
Or give him 2 leggs, anda nice armor or something or shoulder pads and stuff.
Also a Vest for him might look pretty cool, and then a Spear or a nice sword in one of the hands.
Also give him 5 fingers,
i think 5 fingers are important for God like characters,
to me anyways, hehe. I don know why tho! :eek:

heya looking good, i like the new updates, with the shells, and the back cloth
for the body, just thing of how you want him... more of an actaul natural inhabiant sea "creature" or a more person like living in cooperation with the sea.. using it more as materials and thigns.. like the shells for decoration and clothing.. seaweed nets, thinking the spear idea is nice... just research shapes motifs that are abbundant in the ocean world and and apply them to your designs etc :)

thanks for the imput , i have his whole body designed but i dont know if i am putting a tail on him or not, i am making him fight another beast so that could be very hard to animate but well see thanks again :beer:

rim of top lip too sharp.. if u want realistic, it should fade ot a curve in to the skin :)
bottom lip has flat spot which looks awkward...
none of these are big problems.. cant really be overlooked easily anyways.... lol cant wait to see this thing textured.. it would be nice!

post a pic of the body so far that would be interesting. As far as i've seen it's great!
Regarding the body i imagine something like humanoid (two arms & two legs) but with something more (palmed hands and feet and a dorsal spine like some fishes have; full of long, souple spikes). Maybe long slick nails also; and a definitely fish-like texture for the skin (whatever the color).

PS: the neck is at its max; underwater creature have usually a real short, tough neck that get really quick into the shoulders

yes im going to school in vancouver :)
the way i made and painted all the textures in photoshop.
you can cheat it by usingtexture of leather and human skin with huge resolution and having a mild bump level on it.
then paint another bump map using multiple brushes to create different patterns and splotches.. use that as a bump make another one differently mix the 2 bump maps :)
bump maps take lots of tweaking.. it will tak ea couple tries to get the look u want...
once u are happpy with it go for displace map.. as well...:buttrock:

Im glad you went it the leggs idea itlllook cool.
and when your making hte spear, make sure its not just a straight iron pole with a sharp spike, make it look interesting! :D

I like it !! the face is very cool but there is two things.... maybe one first he ears need a little more detail to keep the realistic style and second I don't know if you have finished the shoulders and biceps but they need some tweaking..
the conceptart is superp, looking forward to more !!

looking really good, here's my crits and suggestions.
Feet dont look quite up to scratch. something about them looks short and stubby... he's a sea lord so he should have long powerfull feat with quite long toes, they would in effect have to function as flippers. The toes should also be webbed IMO. The fingers should also be webbed IMO.
Something about the lower legs looks a bit odd, i think the calves should be larger on the outside of the leg than on the inside. Lower legs tend to look like they come out of the knee crooked and bow a little bit, if they are too straigh they tend to look a little funny.
Perhaps he should have Gills either on the side of his kneck or on his back, or perhaps a large blowhole in the middle of his back (would make more sense having this perhaps as the other underwater mammals also have these).
I also think perhaps go with more of a sea motif for the decorations... like possible making the loin cloth from woven seaweed, or from shark skin, rather than cloth, something he would see underwater in everyday life. Use shells for buckles and clasps. I'm sure you can fit netting of some description in there somewhere. A diving knife strapped to his ankle with a carved handle.
Texturewise i think skin like a dolphin with a soft pale front and a deep blue back.

I think the knees could be tuned, on the z, seems like they need to be thicker. I personaly wouldnt put a blow hole that means he would come up for air? just wouldnt look to "cool" for a guy like this hehe.is the middle of a underwater battle he would be like " excuse me one second, i have to go get some air"
I'd make him ampibius (how ever you spell it) dont just condem him to water :)

thanks the feet i just finished before i posted this so i didnt look at them good enough, and his hands well be webed and his toes are going to be covered by spartian sandles(sounds corner but it wont be,hopefully) i didnt want to make the lion out of fish shin because he is a protector of the sea so thats like a racoon wearing a davy crocet hat, the gills are going to be on him but its still a work in progress, so i am doing them on my bump map,just wondering if i well put the gills on the neck or on the side of the rib cage, hes not done yet its just the basic shape no detail yet, thanks for the crit i well change the feet thanks:p

I like the character and I gree with all the crits...
the only other thing that bugs me is the eye sockets close to the nose... They seem to curve inward to much..

hehe.. good point... plus in hindsight a blowhole doesnt look anywhere near as cool as gills....

I reckon model them in because it would look mint if they animate as he breathes.... but then again it depends on what your will be doing with him animation wise ;)

thanks for you imput its hard to get good crits, i think i might model the gills, at first i was going to put them on his cheeks desided on the neck close to the ears and now am wondering if i should put them on his ribbs,
ODIN_6 -- i fixed those eyes from the previous pics i posted at the start of the tread,so they are different now, i well post a pic of the eyes tomorrow thanks

thanks for all the good feed back i am changeing as much as i can now, i was thinking of making a octapuss tenticle comeing out between the biecep and tricep and wraping around his fore arm, just for character, dont know if i should go that route or not , i have had mixed reviews so i was just wondering :p

That tentacle idea is good i think, that could add the little "strange" feeling he's missing. To me he's still a little too human...

sounds cool but that would make him look kinda evil looking andhe is more of a good guy and the guy he is fighting represance the bad guy so if both look like bad guys then it kinda looses the piont, he well have a sking type like a dolphin, smoth and sleak:shame: ;)

I also have one question for you. I mean I should really look into it before I start asking stupid questions, but how are you going back and forth from smooth to the rough poly. Are you just making it smooth for the test renders than undoing it?,- or is there away that you can work for a while with it smoothed than go back to the rough?
I ask cause a little while ago, i had a model of a landscape that needed to be exact, I smoothd it and added some junk to it, then I showed it to my client, and he said that some things about the terrain were off, but at this point the mesh was WAY to complex to go back and change things such as where a mountain was located.

Could you show us some wireframes, i am curious how it looks.
I really love the whole concept of the model, but i would change the loin cloth. It looks a bit...revealing...it wouldn't do much under water anyway. :)
The tentacles are really cool and the head looks great to. Maybe add some more sea characteristics to his body... I don't know. Doesn't look like you need help with your model anyway :)

Konstruct- i am using xsi,and to model it i started with a cube, then divided it on two and then deleted one side, then i cloned the side i kept and put it beside the other so i have to sides the same(this way the what ever i do to one side it well do to the other) then selected both of them and merged them ,whitch makes a new object and i turn up the geomary to 1, and thats it easy as pie this way i dont have to keep going back and forth from smoth to ruff

Looking great so far!. I would suggest maybe some membranes between the fingers, and the tentacles coming out of a different part of the body, because it doesn't look anatomicaly correct (to me) if they are part of the arm. Maybe they could come out of his back or rear chest? Just an idea.

His gills (i think that's the right word...i've just learn it on my WIP...check it out http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89946 ) So, his gills, are , to me, way to small; they should be quite longer for him to breathe.
He may have as well some tentacles more (i like tentacles :D ) on his back maybe; but that would make him a little to evil as i think you want him to be the good guy.
Otherwise he's really great :applause:

Inspiring stuff, I'm glad I saw this. His head design is outstanding, shows alot of quality. As said earlier some more aquatic stylings to the body structure would really improve this character. :thumbsup:
