View Full Version : dynamics question
Jhonus 05-21-2002, 03:53 AM Check out this pic. How can I create a flexable cord between two points that will react to gravity and the surrounding geometry?
I don't want it stretchy, so if a finger moves the slack in the cord needs to be taken up without delay.
Is this possible to do in dynamics? I have zero idea.

i guess cloth could be a solution. just duplicate one of the long isoparms of the surface to a curve. then make it a wire deformer for the surface. after that make it a cloth object and play with the settings, so it doesn't stretch s much.

cool, i'll give that a go.

does cloth always take oodles to simulate?

it really depends what you're trying to do. if you make a full clothed character (which actually doesn't make sense, because you don't need everything to be a cloth object) then go and buy a second computer, because your computer will take a year to calculate and is old. :D
but if you use it like the way above it will be cool. even if you use the cache. it's a real nice thing.

Thanks Svenip!
I'm happy with the general result so far. Just requires alot of tweaking now... theres a few vertice pops, and the motion is too lively for the wirey material I had in mind.
Heres a test animation (170kb) (http://krugar.f2g.net/Images/Arm_03.avi)
I transform constrained the ends of the wires to the fingers and did all the other usual cloth stuff but i wasn't sure what you hand in mind for the wire deformer?

it was just a thought that you use the curve to drive the object (with wire deformer) and drive the curve with cloth. ther are other ways, but i love wires :)
