if you know nearly everything about max, and have a discreet certificate........ how much time would it take for you to switch to softimage xsi if you know nothing about it, and get to perfect it as good as max and maybe even better?

These might help you get started

As for how long?

That is a question that is really tough to answer. Personally, I used MAX for several years and switched to XSI. I have been using XSI in production for 2 years. I have not gone back to MAX.

But I am still finding new things in XSI. Plus they come out with new versions about every 6 months so I am constantly learning.

I have found the best way to get up to speed in any package is having a project to get done. Something that really forces you to learn.

The bonus is that you already have a good foundation knowledge of 3D. That will go along way. The only things that will trip you up are where are all the tools and the rendertree.

But like anything else, once you understand the workflow and the concepts...its like butter.

Don't want to be rude, but what kind of a question is that?

It's like asking how long will it take me to be as proficient in kung fu as I am in karate. It all comes down to your level of motivation,
natural ability, and the time you can spend on that task. It ranges from a month to a year!

To have a better idea, I'd say give a go to the EXP version for about a month or two, in your spare time, do tutorials.

Hope this helps
