heres a project im working on in my second term here in Gnomon, I decided to combine all my classes and work on 1 large project instead of various seperate pieces that i cannot really use on my reel.

This will be a fully animated short about a group of crewmen aboard a B-17 in the bombing campaigns against germany. there will be 8 characters in the plane and there will be germans as well.

NOTHING IS COMPLETED YET :)

heres early productions sketches. I changed direction at the end and went for a more cartoony look.

Heres a first render of the bust made with nurbs patch modeling.
all the textures are solid color procedurals for placement only. this is my first organic model in nurbs. and 2nd in 3d

heres a test of her flight, and lighting: http://www.warproductions.com/maya/b17test2.avi

since all the textures are completely hand painted without ANY photo work or retouching heres a small clipping of the texture of the engine: http://www.warproductions.com/texture.jpg

since we have 2 weeks left you will see everything complete within 2 weeks or i fail :)

all animations will be completed withing 6 months i hope ;)

your character model reminds me of a person i really dislike that has the same modeling characteristics, so i cant give you an accurate comment

B-17 looks sweet though:)

he models like you, the way your character is modeled looks like his modeling, not to say that it is bad modeling, in fact yours is 10x better then his modeling.

Your b-17 is a nice piece of work tho.

Heya...

well, my main problem with your character is that the face looks squished in the middle.... as if you applied a lattice and scaled the center row of lattice points in... while a character's face could have this overall shape, the problem is that -all- of the features are exhibiting this. So I would fix that.

Aside from that, the overall idea/design/forms are working pretty well. Are you doing this for a class or for yourself?

A.

hmmm how could i fix this then? any ideas? are you suggesting i use a lattice again to even out the center?

i'll try it out and see, the hourglass feel was kinda intentional though. actually i got so sick of everyone in school calling my character jesus that i just threw some deformers on him to get them off my back.

this is for daniels class (organic), concepts for feng/hung (production design) class and plane for taos class (surface modeling)

hopefully by term 3 i can start animating this guy.:p

Not much constrast.
I would imagine that even if it's night, then there should be even more constrast.

Your b17 seems like it has the rear landing gear in mid-air?the rear should be touching the ground almost.

in your B17 night render, how did you do the clouds? is it Fluid Effects?

I like it....the pilot and everything.

The nighttime pic does need a little work with the lighting but overall I would give you an A.

hey guys thanks for the response.

Neil: i agree completely the night scene needs better lighting, ive been trying to do a Mental ray render but for some reason the planes shading networks are crashing it eveytime.

Joss : fludi effects yes however i rendered it out the cluds alone, tweaked them in Photo Shop then reimported it as a camera plane. this reduced the rendering time.

RmachucaA : damn you busted me, i have a newer render which i'll post later with the rear landing gear. like i said i was seriously short on time.

wgreenlee1: thanks dude i hope i get one
