I'm having a hard time getting the glass settings right. I have a cylinder with a Halo material on it, inside this glass, but we cannot see it
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance guys,
JDL

No halos are visible in reflected or refracted rays.

Yeh it is a post effect, so won't work in this case. What visual effect are you trying to achieve?

This is the beam I would like to show through the glass.

I vote render the glass in a different renderlayer,
OR as the halos are obviously meant to be emissive(light),
render them in a separate pass and composite,
even better render halo's then the glass then everyhting else in different layers.

fktt,
Alright, I'm trying this tutorial (http://www.studiorola.com/tutorials/rendering-tutorials/blender-3d-making-objects-glow-part-2/) to "make objs glow", which uses "render layers" too.
I did get it working at some point, but now it no longer works
Would you mind having a look at my settings and tell me what I'm doing wrong?
In case you wonder why I have 3 render layers, unlike the tutorial: I created an additional render layer called "separate lamps" for those lamps inside a couple of objs, I need them to light up the inside of the object but nothing else in the scene, this way I can make the lamp light only what's in its layer.

What ya think?
Could you post(or pm) the blend, it's easier to figure out how you have set up the whole scene that way. :)

Thank you for the offer FKTT :)
But I finally figured it out!

The most important thing was to render the big glass at the very end of the rendering process.
My nodes noodle looks a bit larger now, but that's due to other parts of the whole scene that don't have a thing to do with the rendering of the beam in the "J". You can see in the lower right corner of the noodle setup the last renderlayer to be processed is the one called: "J window".

Heh, figured it was something like that, but wasn't sure(can be hard to tell from screen shots sometimes).
