View Full Version : Enchanted Forest - Environment/Character - vancorso
vancorso 05-20-2002, 11:49 PM Hello all!
I have not much experience in 3D, and no much time either (agh, the exams are here!! :surprised ), but I wanna participate this constest anyway. Well, at least I'm sure I'll gonna learn much doing this work :)
My idea for this contest it's based on the manga/movie of Hayao Miyazaki, Nausicaä of the
Valley of Wind, one of the best animated films (and manga) ever made. If you don't know what i'm talking... you don't have pardon :shame: ;) Maybe if I said that Miyazaki it's the author of the "Princess Mononoke" you already know who i'm talking. Here are some more info: Info Nausicaä (http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/nausicaa)
Well, I'll gonna try to doing "The wasted lands" (or "Sea of Corruption"), that is a vast forest of fungus and plants that give off poisonous gases and cover most of the Earth, with all those stranger plants and insects (maybe not so dark like in the movie...). And the central character will be a "Forest Man" or two (or three... :D)
Umh, I think It will be hard  I hope have sufficient time before the dead line. Here are the first skechtes i've done, reviewing the manga (i wanna see the movie again, for more references)

Hi!!
Very busy this weekend. To many partys... :buttrock: :buttrock:
So this really not an update. But yesterday i did this picture. It's the Nausicaä's helmet. It's my first painting on photoshop so i want your opinions. I have no digital board so i did it with the mouse :surprised
Do you know some web where i can find tutorials to learn painting thecniques with photosop? Thanks!! :)

Hi!
I finished the forest man modeling and start texturing it. I haven't modeled the legs cos in the final composition it will not seen (hidden by the plants, tronks, etc...).
The hand model it's a "poser han"... I know,I have no shame :shame:, but i have no too much time, and I even must model
all the forest
The textures are almost finish, I will only add some dirt on the antigas mask. Consider that this is my first serious texturing attempt. Before I have only used procedurals and basic uv mapings.
The next step: To use bones to make the forest man final pose and model some kind of weapon (a rifle... or maybe a spear. I don't know :lightbulb )

Great hand.....
The rest could use a little refined compared to the quality of the hand, but it still looks really good. Yeah I have finalls soon to and I find myself spending to much time here instead of working on final school projects.

thanks to all for the comments :)
Adam: aagh, i'm spending to much time too on this contest. 3D it's bad!! :shame: :D
Well, and here, the posed potato.. errr Forest Man :p The wood surely become in a spear, although in Nausicaä's manga they really carry a wood like this. But I think that a spear will gonna look better...

Very cool! Still keeping the miyazaki flavor to it all with the spear design. The grass looks awesome so far, and nice lighting. Potato man is looking great. Keep rollin' :D

Update!
Well, the lighting in this pic have not volumetrics (like in the previous), becose they cause very slow render. Do you think that i should use volumetrics on the final image or keep the actual ilumination? (umh, I reallly like the way it's looking now)
I wanna add more grass density too, but since the render time are taking long (20 minutes this last, at the actual size), I will do this only in the end.
Now is time for modeling mushrooms, fungis and other plants :)
hypercube: thanks for the comments =)

I'm not crazy about the white shiny texture on the trees. I think it should be more of a dull brown color. Also I think that you should leave the two trees that were in that last volumetric test rendering and push the other trees back into the depth of the picture more. Everything else I like. Will you get a chance to try a couple changes?

That's very good looking!!!!
...Damn I like it much better now, I think the creature is standing really weird tough... Also try to attach the curly/wormy things to the surface more...they look a bit unreal...
Great stuff!!!
