Goodie2Shoes 08-29-2003, 12:08 PM Hi!
Any tips for that?
[i didn't started yet, but i do see some problems i might have... like if i'll use box modeling - there are parts that do need meshsmooth BUT there are parts that don't! so - here is problem #1...]
any tips? ideas?

mesh smooth can be added locally. select the corners that you want it, then add mesh smooth, make sure you un check the apply to whole mesh box. then you can mesh smooth detailed areas, and keep large flat areas simple.

i don't know what your preferences are but i would use splines and surface.
or
for the head lathed spline , the body tapered box, the legs extruded profile the arms bent cylinders and the hands box modeling with mesh smooth.
do you have a pic of what you want to do?

no i mean its easier to model if you have a picture front and profile.

yeah i know what you mean. you can take a picture and scan it after. or if you have a digital camera.
or try this
get a really dark room, get your object place it infront of a flashlight and trace the shadow on a piece of paper possitioned across from the flashlight on the wall. make sure the flashlight is alligned with the center of the lego man or you will get ununiform distortion in size of shadow.
its not grea but that will do.
used to use this techinique when modeling faces back in the days.

i'm a design student in university so i'm on tight tight budget so i tend to resort to these kind of experements

I tried to use meshsmooth on a test model i made [not lego] - but i can't use it that way...
it's a ricola candy box [squre] - i tried to make the corners or the sides a bit round - but the entire damn model get f*cked up! hrrrr

Hi Goodie2hoes...first post here in this place for me.
This is gonna sound like a no-brainer...I don't know if you've tried this yet...but why don't you use a chamferbox if you need a cube with beveled sides (I think this is what you are trying to do, right?)?

Goodie2Shoes:
Are you aware of this great freeware - 3D - legomodeller ?
http://www.leocad.org/
you could build up your modell with it and export it...
it comes with a library of ALL available Lego-pieces...
;-)

OMG!!! OMG!!! :buttrock:
i'll check it out right-away!!!
thanks!
but still, I really would like to know how to do this in max... [the last meshsmooth question]
wow thanks!
edit: can LeoCAD do animation?
can it export to 3dsmax the legoman or other models using their entire components...
[i mean that i'll have the ability to disassemble the lego man to it's
basic component... (leg, another leg,arm,head...) - or to disassemble
lego building to their bricks?]

how f***ed up is it? what kind of meshsmooth are you using i.e. nurms, classical.etc are you using triangular or square?
post the pic of work in progress sometimes that helps.
