View Full Version : Arm doesn't follow spine

Hello I work on a tutorial for character rigging. Its the package man from Javier Solsona.

After I had created the spine set up with a script running (Jason Schleifer Spine Set Up), it worked fine. There are two controllers, one for the COG-controll which moves the whole upper body and lets the feet stay on the ground, and the hips- control that only moves the hips but smoothly orients the upper body, but stays in place.

I created the Arm set up manually: its a set up with four arms: Real Arm, Constrain Arm, FK-, and IK-Arm.

But now the problem is: the arm (which is parented to the spine) stays in place when I move the hip/cog controllers..

What could be the problem, I didnt even touch the spine set up, and I parented all objects and controlls the way it is shown in the tutorial, are there any settings wrong? I know you cant solve it without having the file, but any hints what often could go wrong?

Thank you very much.
Simon

You didn't touch the spine but your arm setup which can't be seen from the pictures is more than likely not setup correctly and is basically pinning the Arm in place. The control rig for arm should be parented into the Rest of the Rig. So that it derives its Zero location from where the upper torso is. Hence moving with the spine.

Thanks, I solved the problem. The clavicle control wasn't constrained to a joint of the spine. Now it works. This kind of setup uses a lot of constraints, just parenting all the controlls to the master doesnt work because of double transformations.
It was hard for me to understand the hierarchy with so many constraints.
