one of the characters I am working on for my demo reel @ vfs.
This is a mix breed between an orcling and a goblin... how it happend i dont know.
Some info.
Body proportions of a goblin, small liek a hobbit(not stubby like a dwarf) head is slighyly big compared to torso. Standard goblin trait :)

Anyways, here's just the torso with procedural diffuse color and painted bump map. No textures yet. Eyes ... sorta look cartoony... err ill try to make it cooler :)

(currently Painting more detailed textures....)

Great looking character! I think his lips look a little lifeless, but that will probably come together when you get to texturing.

All in all, a good piece of work!

Hehe, nice work so far, but "orc" is just J.R.R. Tolkien's own word for goblin. In fact, in The Hobbit, he often calls them goblins instead of orcs. Nice detail in the facial region, and good anatomy. Hope to see the rest of him soon :)

Wow, great skin details. Love the texturing so far.

The arms look good to me. The hands should be about mid-thigh when arms are down. Looks about right to me.

Sequestrian: The arms on yours look too long. :p

hey nice job , the arm biecep is still not changed but i diffenently work for me now, nice job i think the arms are fine the way they are, because he is half orc and goblin, and goblin are usually small, just one thing can to show and tell us how you got the textures like that, like the spec map and color and bump, nice:beer:

dave_baer: oops, I didn't mean to say mine were any more proportional, I was just trying to get feedback on my character... ,':o)

but that brings a good point... if you meant for them to be disproportionately short, thats fine... as dave said, I made my character's super long...

the bicep does looks short form certain angles, i made it proportionally a cm or 2 shorter then normal to achieve the semi gobliny stubby orcy look lol...

but it still doesnt look correct so i will fix the geomeotry.. i was just buzy putting simple textures on the rest of the body didnt update the geometry yet :) i will make an update as soon as i am allowed to :)

keep his shirt of,
makes him look dirty cough potatoe troll like,
make the pants more interesting,
like more detail, and more eye catching, right now they dont really seem to fitt.

Good job so far, i love this model

lo 3d42dustin and the others :P
I really love those textures, man. I think you should define a bit the tatoo of the back because looks a bit pixelated. have you any tutorial from yourself about doing those IMPRESSIVE textures, huh?
Talking bout the muscles... WOW! kewl!

Maya render look realistc, keep update !! (but idon't like much the cloth, better with amor :))

TetsuoShima

Nice model,
The only thing that i can think about is to pull out the eyebrows a little bit. Make it more outstanding. He´s body looks like a boxe fighter to me...

thnx for critiques they are very help full guys..

tatoo on the back will be removed or replaced... due to lack to detail and pixelation as pointed out from member.

I agree, pants are too plain.. something must be done to make it interesting.. i will think of what to do asap.

ARMOR is probably a better idea. AGREED. will work on it asap as well. Update is comin just have to get an upload :)

its not maya.

its XSI softimage.

texture size for body is 3500x3500 resolution.

mesh total character triangulation sits at 700 000 to 1 million.

i dont have a tutorial for how i made the texture.. im just a rookie at 3d, still a student i only have couple months experience. I will make some sort of tut. later after my demo reel tis completed to show how the textures were painted and how i got the muscles to look the way it does.. :hmm: thnx for goin over my work. and when ever u have new ideas keep my informed :scream:

hey man,

Nice model! I think I saw you unwrapping this is in the term 3 lab.
My only crit is that the facial detail/style doesn't seem to match the torso detail. The torso is full of fairly-realistic soft well defined lines, where as the wrinkles in the head and the eyes seem somewhat extreme + stylized. I really like the texturing, the tats are a nice touch, but i think they'd look a lot better if they were faded and beaten up.

Anyway, as i said before, very nice.

3d42dustin

wire frame of head as reqquested. only a few triangles hidden deep in the ear.. not visible. :) This guy is positively QUADS! cept for the big triangle at the flap of the ear.. which isnt a prob :)

Really nice work, the muscles and veins... are just perfect to me, but maybe the clothes are not enough ...violent... for a orc/goblin.

I really like where you are going with this... I cannot wait to see it with armor on.

3d42dustin
09-08-2003, 10:23 AM
yes.. agreed cloth just makes the character look weak especially when his face is displaying a strong character.

i have to rework the cloth make it more clothlike... and armor is a must :) thank you for ideas :) :wavey:

again it is an awesome character. I like the shirt but agree with the others, he needs a great armor.
there also are 2 things Id change a bit: first the too high shiny gloves and then the footwear (dont like that shape) :P
really like that character

That is a damn nice char you have created her but some things are still to mention. I personally don't like the gloves the look more suitable for a female char or a magician. The texture on his pants look like towel material:) Don't know how this is called in english. The face is da bomb and the texture with all that veins is killer too. What i love most is the big tattoo on his back.

Keep 'em comin.
