I am new to VUE and wishing some help.

I am wondering if someone has tried or know if VUE is able to create ground Explosions from aircraft dropping bombs.

I wish to create this type of an explosion from VUE.
If so, could someone point to a tutorial or help me out?

I dont think so. You'll probably need to take the scene into a 3D program like C4D or Max.

it is possible to animate the terrain with procedural functions, and you could use black metaclouds for the smoke. question is, is it worth the time, because it could take a bit of setup.
you could also limit a cloud layer to the ground for the smoke, animating the cloud height may be possible for a faster solution.

but yes, probably better in an app with a particle system.

as mentioned i would do the explosion in another 3d app and composite it all/use xstream for the final rendering.

However as Nicholas pointed out, itīs very possible to do it in vue, metaclouds are perfect for the smokecloud and the terrain could be animated if needed, or just use two terrains, one before and one after which wont realy be visible until after the smoke has cleared anyway.

Another option is of course to just use a postwork/fx app for the explosion/smokecloud.

thank you for all of your replies.

I have a 3ds Max plugin called Afterburn. I have created an explosion with in it. something strange is happen when rendering in VRay in Max.

xStream renders but the explosion does not render correctly. The Explosion is behind and in the trees but the rendering renders it on top of the trees and not in to the trees.

Anybody know why this is happening?

Hey BAKMS, try checking the option "Optimized atmospheric evaluation" in the vray System pannel from the render settings and see if it helps.

I tried that and no go..
thank you offer.

Any other suggestions?

Strange thing I have noticed. The Afterburn will render at all; unless you have them the correct order.

I feel that I am missing something easy...

I have an f22 that if it flies behind a moutain, the f22 is hidden, but the partical generated
exaust trail shows thru moutain, so I just plan around it, it did the same in ver 7,You can put an object between the camera and the particals and then the view object then it will not show
thru. EXAMPLE , your explosion then a cube or what ever , then the vue forest then the camera, Hope this works for ya in your 3d program , DJ
