10 lbs is not a laptop.
it barely qualifies as a portable.

What softwares did you use?
Cheers!

specs on that sound a lot like the fujitsu amilo d. but i agree, 10 lbs is a flat desktop :)
nice job!

Thank you Flywaver & Rich Novak. I concepted and directed the teaser. My associate at Alienware did the 3D design in 3DMAX 5, I believe and later I put it all together in Flash, the effects on the monitors were also created in flash. The blurs of course in photoshop.
As for the laptop... Let the actual product be released before you critique its specs. I can tell you this much, it looks slick.
The weight and specs you are reading about on the page are for the old model. If you examine the flash teaser you will notice that the laptop has radically changed. The laptop was custom designed for Alienware and no other. The new laptop will be released in the next couple of weeks.
And if you guys are concerned about weight, just remember that this is a desktop replacement, able to hold and weild as much power as a fully decked-out PC. LAN tourneys and midnight renders will fly on this. If you want light weight you should check out our newly released light and thin Sentia.
I am just a designer and not a sales man. So if you would not mind please keep the comments centered around the teaser work done not on the specs... but just to end that note, Dstripinis if you think 10lb is not portable, I dont remember seeing to many desktops that are....

Nice De-Cypher! :applause:
Yeah...high end Desktop replacements are heavy! I am currently looking into one such as Asus or any clone since they cost much less than brand names. Only worries about these power hungry laptops is that they dissipate a lot of heat if they carrydesktop components!
Cheers!

Great little ad, but the product you're supporting still kills me. Why can they not bring the price down on these laptops. I mean they've been around almost as long as pcs now. Make the components cheaper already. And it would be nice if they could make them upgradeable so you don't go and have to spend 3k+ every year when you want to upgrade...

looks cool but to me its a little slow. doesnt really grab you except for the bit at the end. looks very nice but i only watched it all the way thru because i was 'reviewing' it for you, i'd have probably clicked the X half way thru.

mattregnier: The new laptop is fully upgradeable, from the video card, to the cpu, just like a desktop, we are one of the first to implement this (i believe).
clusterfuq: Like all things in the corporate world, and the hinderences placed on creatives by the marketing department; I would have much rather have directed my assotiate to do a whole little movie, instead of this. But time and limited resources, specially when they have guy like me who does web is covering print design and any other "goodies" they throw at me. Also this was my first real flash "design" project with a concept, I usually do the development side of flash and most of the stuff i do are navigations and the like. Thanks for the comments...
Have a great weekend...!!!

I didnt like the falsh either.
It took soooooooooo long to show anything.
Just boring...I would suggest showing the product more and faster rather than all the crappy text blurs and moves.
AS a marketing piece it annoyed this potential customer anyways

I think a flash ad like this should tout the hardware features more and gaming options less (but dont leave them out :))
All in all Ihave to aggree with earlier comments on the lack of interesting hoopla :) but I hope all the crit you get leads to a better ad next time :p
too slow and long, I didn't wait till the end, sorry. nice site though
if its posted for a crit, how is this news?

Well its news about the arrival of the new laptop... and the release of my flash piece... If I would have known that so many of you disliked it, I probably would have put it to be critiqued in one of the other forums.
Your crits are very blunt and somewhat harsh, being that i mentioned this is my first flash design piece with some kind of concept. I would like suggestions on how i could have made it better, not just "I dont like it, it was too slow". The slowness of the clip is understood, partly due to all the marketing verbiage i had to put in there, there is no way to get out of that. And I kind of liked the slowness, it is kind of 2001 space odysseish...
I feel proud of what I accomplished, and happy that I work for a corporation that allowed me to create it and show it to the world.
Thanks to the couple of you that liked it and to those who didnt I hope to WOW you with something in the future...
Well its news about the arrival of the new laptop... and the release of my flash piece...
then why say this:
"So if you would not mind please keep the comments centered around the teaser work done not on the specs"
ok so then its not news, it's for crtique ; )
the comments are meant to be constructive
The slowness of the clip is understood, partly due to all the marketing verbiage i had to put in there, there is no way to get out of that.
Of course there is.
You just aren't open to it,
I guess due to just completing something you put a lot of hard work into.
Your replies seem to be defensive and in denial of others opinions, they are just just opinions, but valid as audience perspective.
The slownesss of the clip is not "understood" as in factually required, its just slow IMO, not understandably slow as I don't see the reason for it. Sure the space oddessy feel might work, but the uninteresting text is on the screen for along time, few people without sight disabilities would not be able to read it 10 times there's no suspense, it's irritating to the point I'd be better to close the window and search for the info (new info on product being one of the main purposes of the ad) myself.
Personally I didn't find this ad below slow, in fact I watched it a 2nd time, but I know some hated it.

yes it's nice, but it's a hideous green, and I don't see an option to change it to a nice grey;)

I agree with Valkyrien
The poster does sseem a tad defensive as I thought these comments were constructive.
I understand why people quitted out early...as someone said earlier I would have exited too if I wasnt going to comment on it.

If I came off defensive, I apologize. First time I get critiqued in the open world forum, and its a new layer of skin I must form. I appreciate all your commentary.
Valkyrien: the green you see is for the old laptop, you will be able to select other colors once the new laptop in the flash piece is released.
Again, thank you all for your comments.

ok, all is well then:)
still, I don't actually have any use for a laptop, so it's a moot point. I was just saying is all;) and you have every right to be a little defensive;)

I dont use a laptop myself, but after seeing the power of this machine, I might be switching to a mobile workstation in the future.
