Hello

I'm pretty much a newbie concerning 3d. I'm now trying to model my first head. But before I continue to add detail to the head, maybe you guys could just have a little look at my basic form.

Maybe you could tell me, if I allready made some big mistakes againts the true form of a human head. If those mistakes were gone, I think it will be more "easy" to make a little bit of a "realistic" looking head.

(I'm wanting to make a womans head) :)

LOL, that's true, but I mean errors like neck too thin, chin to much outwards, head too long...

mesh is too heavy to be considered as (basic form/ proxy)

what you should do is achieve the basic shape using the least amout of polys possible.. once proportions are down..
then start adding polys where u need them or sub dividing...

this will aid in the general reduction of useless polys....

startin out heavy = takes longer to model, takes longer to add detail....

start as light as possible...

Why not try to use some photo references or find some anathomy drawings on the net. It's the best way when your a newbee.

Cheers
