View Full Version : MAYA on MAC CRASHING!!! HELP!

I've done everything to fix this issue, still Maya on my MAC is crashing on my face! All I'm doing is building a simple model. A polygon and a sphere. After about 1 hour later, Maya crashes.

Crash Report says:

KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE

I've done these following:

1. Repair Disk Permission

2. Delete User Preference File

3. Check make sure I don't have 2 AW Dat Files.

4. Memory Ram Test! Ram is fine.

5. Reinstall Maya

6. Delete History regularly

Could this be caused by My Mac Pro?

Can you guys make sure my Mac is compatible with Maya?

I have Maya 8.5 for MAC

MAC PRO (10.4.11 Tiger OS X)
Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 Ghz
3 GB Memory Ram
Bus Speed 1.33 GHZ

NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT Video Card
256 MB

Could it be the display card?

to sum up i think its hw(memory) problem. your spec looks fine.

you probably need 10.5.2 at least with Maya 2008 or later. You're running 10.4

Also, kernel problems like that are usually bad RAM from my experience. In the system preferences, check your RAM status and see if any are returning errors:

That's just a basic ECC check so if you want to do something more elaborate to test your RAM, try this:

But I would upgrade to 10.6.2 since that video card has problems with 10.5 that were only addressed in 10.6. I'd replace that card though - it's pretty crap for Maya. A Radeon 4870 or GTX 285 will destroy that thing.

edit: sorry, just saw that you did memtest. I think you should get 10.6.2 - it will run Maya 2008-2010 fine and I doubt you'll be able to run future versions on anything less than 10.5.8 but I don't know for sure.
