I want to create effect of volume light coming throught clouds...you know what I mean this kind of god fingers effect=).
I was trying to use dreamscape 3d clouds but voulme light doesn't work with that. Also creating box gizmo with volume fog in it as clouds plus volume light over it, doesn't work.

volume lights do work, you just have to make sure the shadows are set to shadow map, raytrace is not supported.
plus render time goes through the roof. Also you need to make sure the atmosphere shadows is switched on in the light parameters.
:D

yep I know that raytrace doesn't work with volume but you mean that volume light works with dreamscape skies or just with volume fog?

i don't think you should you direct light. i think a far away spot light does a better job on that scale you should see the change in angle.

Have you thought of faking it with a cloud texture as a projector in the spot, wouldn't have thought you could tell the difference and it should render faster.
