Hi guys. What's up?
I got a problem.

Ive got a PIII 800Mhz system - 256MB RAM (I can't upgrade now!:annoyed: ) and I'm rendering a 300.000 poly scene using VRAY (a render engine for MAX).
Well, the problem is that when Im on low quality testing, it's all OK, but when I want to create a final image with high quality, the VFB keeps black, and after 10 hours of waiting nothing happens.
Some guys in Chaotic Dimensions Forums (http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums/phpBB2/index.php) told me that I'm running out of memory.
I'm using MAX 5 but I don't know how to fix this problem. Is the only way adding ram? or are there another choices?
I tried using the Bitmap Pager but the results didn't change.

I'll appreciate your help guys

Render at a lower resolution.

You can also increase your windows page file to an extremely large size.

Start-Settings-Ctrl Panel-System-Advanced

Performance

(If XP then advanced again)

Page File...change to like 1024 min and 1024 max.

Otherwise...just go to the store and buy 256 megs of PC133 for 20 bucks.

Thanks a lot Greg.

If you increase virtual memory do you think that a big render will be possible?
I would afford memory, but the problem that's not my machine. It's the machine I use at work (an institute)... and you must know how is "ask things" in that kinda places... :D d*mn hard!

Yes...a larger render will be possible...but it will be HELLA SLOW.

The instant you run out of physical ram, performance drops like a rock.

Your going from around 800 megs/sec to around 20-30 megs/sec.

You will need admin access to increase the vm size though...which could be a problem at the school.

Well I'm working in maya and rendering big (3000x6000) images is not possible in there either, so I always slice the image in piece of 600x600 and put them back together in Photoshop. I don't know if it's possible in VRAY.. if it has some command prompt it probably is.

That's a good point Greg...:hmm:

And you danylyon, that's a good idea (very smart) I'll find out if it's possible in VRAY.
