This sort goes along with something I'm working on at the moment so I guess I'll give this a stab. Expect to see a Hobbit and Orc in mine!! :bounce: :applause:

Ok I changed my idea a bit. Heres the concept sketch I did. Its of a tree standing alone amongst several dead trees. I'm hoping to animate him to a song with I'll not mention right now. ;) I know several other people are doing "tree people" but I'm hoping to make mine unique. Tell me what you think!

I have to agree with dodo3d. Based on your sketch the nose looks too small. Other than that it looks good so far. A dancing tree huh? :)

Thanks guys, I'll fix that nose ASAP!

Hes not going to be dancing, just singing with a little arm and body movement (hes going to be rooted). I dont think I'll get the animation done in time but I'm still going to do it.

Now that I look at it I might make the nose a tad bit bigger again....maybe make it longer(virtical). hmmmm tell me what you think.

Yeah, I think the nose is good side to side. Maybe just lower the nostrils and tip part and extend the bridge longer. The model looks really nice all smoothed.

Thanks for the comments!

ZrO: I'll be doing that to the nose ASAP.

Dodo3d: Shag:fur my friend! This is the first time I've been able to make good grass with it. Still not as good as I'd like it to be but I've got ideas to make it better. Langthens the render time a lot though.:thumbsdow

I don't know if you can do this with shag since it's meant for hair, but one thing you could try to tweak the grass is make the root area at least twice as wide as the tip. That should help to make it look more leaf shaped...unless it just comes out looking like a bunch of cones...that wouldn't be too good :D

Yeah I dont really know how to do that with shag:fur/shag:hair. I THINK it can be done, anyone know how to do this??

H I was really wondering on how you made your leaves in the tree.
they are so dense and look really good. just what I need for my trees to. could you please explain?? PLZ
Thanks in advantage. or mail me

It took me a while to figure out how I was going to do the leaves but I eventually used the MAX scatter tool. Particles didnt turn out right(im no particle expert) and scattering on just the branches didnt work eather. So I made several spheres and added the noise modifyer to them so their shape wouldnt be so regular then scattered 500 leaves on each sphere. The poly count is REALLY climbing up there, right now its around 800,000 which is a lot for my computer. Hope that helps! :buttrock:

id say browndefinately , it will blend nicely into the wood and wont make him look tooo anthropomorphized. . . as in this great enchanted tree with run-of-the-mill cliche CG pixaresque eyes.
unless thats the look youre going for. . .
nice leaves, and good job sticking to your concept BTW.

PS. i think there is a transperency\transluscensy feature in shag.
a nice multiple ramp gradient might give that grass that really...
well grassy look... vein-like-slivers of opacity inbetween broad spaces of transluscency.
come to think of it i think your leaves could really benefit from some good transluscency-vein-mapping as well...
looking good...funny avatar...

the specularity and diffuse on your grass is great

As far as the iris color, I like the green eyes in the main render...but I like the brown eyes close up. One thing you might have to keep an "eye" :p out for is that if you use the brown eyes, they could get lost in the rest of the texture.
