View Full Version : "grey" daylight?
neods 08-28-2003, 08:04 AM Hey, I need to create a scene with very neutral light, like on the grey days. Kinda like in the animation "50 precent grey". Can i create this with a skydome or multiple lights.
Like in this example:here (http://www.finalrender.com/products/feature.asp?UD=10-7888-35-788&PID=36&FID=375)
I've thought about radiosity but its for a animation so can it be fast enuff?
Thanks

Skydome + radiosity = Looks great, easy to setup. Slooooow.
Multiple lights to fake it = A bit harder to setup, but renders much faster.

Try creating a simple lighting ring with maybe 32 lights all 'soft shadow casting' and pointing to the same area. You could also try a light dome. For the colour of the light, I would make it a slight shift to 'light blue' from 50% grey (excuse the pun). The basic physical attribute you need to get is that light is coming from all directions.

is there a plugin available that creates the lights? I've tryed a plugin called 50grey but it didnt fuction well and was a bit buggy. Is there any other plugins that can create this set of lights?

I would create it myself. With all the time spent looking, installing and learning the plugin you will have made it yourself. Try a simple rig with 16 lights to start off with, you might find that will surfice.

I've had some very good results with DiCloner. There's an introductory tutorial on GI using DiCloner here (http://www.metafex.net/cinefex/tutorials/gldt/index.html).
