I've posted this in the main max forum, but I'm reposting here with added script related questions.
Has anyone built a character rig that included IK fingers on an IK arm? Obviously I want to be able to have them both operate seperately and also want the option to switch the fingers to FK. Would I just go about this in a similar way that a switching IK arm works where I'd have 3 finger bones for each finger:
1/ To skin to
2/ IK finger
3/ FK finger
And the skinned-to finger will have orientation constraints to both of the other fingers that can be switched with a custom attribute slider.
If anyone's already done something like this, what issues did you have to overcome? Or other ways to achieve a good result?
Any tips on automating the creation? I'm no stranger to maxscript.
Also, anyone out there that's created complex rigs: Is there any speed gains from using scripted controllers rather than orientation constraints for switching IK rigs and the like? And 'cause I've had nightmares in the past with wire parameters, I'm going to use script controllers instead or wiring. Or are there reasons not to go down this path?
Cheers people,
Cg.
