View Full Version : Light passing through geometry problem
larikaram 01-23-2010, 11:21 PM Hi all,
I have this little basic problem. I have a Cube on a Grid (both polymesh). If i put a light source in that cube!! The light passes through the cube's surface affecting the grid. How can i force the light source not to do so without using the Associate Light to the cube!
Also I notice, in a similar situation, that the light in the cube can affect my bump's specular on the outer surface!
I never had this problem in other softwares like 3ds max...
I tried the Visibility option both faces visible but still i have this problem!
any help would be appreciated!

You have to make sure that "Visible geometry side" in Mental Ray > Optimization > Geometry is set to both sides. Also make sure that you set it up for render region if you render it that way,not the mental ray in the render manager, and It will work.
You can also set up scene options if you want the rend.region to use scene options.

Is that normal? I activated both faces on all objects even on my light source, and also on my mentalray...

is your light shadow casting with 0 umbra?
Just tried it here, and it's umbra issue.

as you can see, their is a red specular on my texture which comes from the red light in the box and the bump map! how come the light is interracting with the outer surface of my mesh??
any HELP???
Thanks

Old thread, but...
I having some light problems too, checked the umbra as well as the render options, but my light keeps penetrating surfaces.
I have a camera in a cube and light outside, but it's somehow able to illuminate the inside of that cube - :banghead: and I swear, I had it working at some point...
EDIT: got it to work. Apparently I had to duplicate my cube, change it to have normals facing outwards and merge it with the inner cube. Now I can have any lights outside without them illuminating the inside.
