Hey, finally I try to participate in a challenge. :bounce: I´m quite new to CG, so this will finally be a topic with a deadline which should keep me busy and will give me a lot to learn.

So now to my type of forest. It will be based on an idea out of the book "The Stone God Awakes" from Philip José Farmer. There, a huge tree, several hundred kilometers in diameter and some thousand meters high, is covering a large part of north America after the obligatory 3rd world war. It has branches so wide sometimes, that rivers can flow on them. The hero of the book makes a journey through this foresttree aboard a primitive airship. The main population of this world are catpeople, racoonish people and people with insectwings.

So there will probably be a sort of airship travelling through the branches of a bottomless forest with extremely large branches around. If I can do the people, I do not know. Heck, this is my first trip into a CG image where I´m not just playing around but try to make something pleasing and serious. And more important, I will try to finish it. But probably, I will not be able to texture it.:hmm:

Anyway, try to hurry up and post a sketch tomorrow.

The concept seems very good, well, great! :) ...especially that bottomless forest part. Great to see what comes out of this. I wish you a good luck ;)

Hey, I managed to draw a little sketch and started modelling. The sketch is very rudimentary. There should be foliage and bushes/small trees atop the horizontal branches. From these, a lot of airroots will drop below the branches. The background will fade into green/grey fog. As it is a special forest, some horizontal branches will guide a sort of little river atop to the main tree, where it forms a waterfall dropping sideways. If I am not able to create a proper waterfall, the water will vanish through a hole into the treetrunk ;) the airship is missing a lot in this sketch (engine, propellers, ...) but should look like ancient airships from the early 20th century.

Maybe the whole atmosphere will be darker with some lamps attached to the airship and a few lights (fires? villages?) in the forest. But, on the other hand, it could be a bright friendly forest too.

Man, you model and model and model. Then you render and see, that one file is corrupted and does not display!

Softwareupdate - three days lost.

The old models had corrupted data, so I started again.

Here is a first view of a tree with a river/lake on one of his branches and an airship over it. The other trees will be of the same sort. I have gone away from the idea of a single large tree. So, it will probably be many trees in a bottomless forest.

First view of an airship. It should look old fashioned like i.e. the italian "Nobile". I am not happy with the overall style yet. The rudders are looking to modern. The first airships were blimps, sort of a balloon atttached to a Gondola. So there is a keel where the ballon should be attached to by means of a net around the ballon. I do not know how to make a net. So its missing. This is still rough, a lot of stuff is missing. Time for bed now. Have to start working early.

Posted and directly edited. The envelope/ballonet (right word?) is also looking to modern. For an ancient blimp, it should have a smaller diameter towards the keel.

this certainly has to be the most imaginative entry iv seen .
I am also just starting out out and I my level i feel that the idea is a lot more important than fancy techniques.
I just love the scale of the project

So slow! I am working so painfully slooow!:annoyed: Can someone give me a hint, how to make some sort of foliage? The green ill looking thing in the front left should be a test for a small treetop/treecanopy. I do not want to model every leaf. How to apply a proper texture in Cinema 4d XL 7? Hmm, where is the next tutorial ...

Have to: add more trees, make new airships (found satisfying pictures), learn how to make foliage, LEARN MUCH MORE ...

Still not very forest like - and even less enchanted :hmm:

But I start to like my airship.

So, add more plants, more green, more treedetails, make it darker and I think it will slowly evolve to an enchanted forest. There is already magic glowing water ;)

I like how you have the branches turn upwards after the "lake" section to almost become the trees of the enviroment. It's all very inventive and I really like the concept. Your airships are looking very nice as well. Keep up the good work, don't loose faith, you still have 4 weeks to work on it. :applause:

A few more details on the airship. Still not happy with the gondola. It looks to modern. But all drawings with "old" gondolas show open gondolas. Which would mean some characters in it :hmm: Also, it looks to clean.

We will see, next is more plants and growing stuff.

It looks great. Maybe the only suggestion I'd have is to place a bump on the "hot-air" part of the blimp to show some of the support structure under it...Kind of like canvas stretched over a cylinder frame.

I really like it though :applause:

There was just no time anymore to continue with this. I was barely at home for the last two, three weeks. Frustrating, because I wanted to complete this. Well, everything at work broke down during this time and I had to fix that things first. :annoyed:

Ok, maybe next time.

Regards, Honda.
