Hymm ok here I go again, Im gunna aim for trickery because I got a slow computer 800 mhz :) so ill do my best to make a good mistical forest/ I am planning of a resting place for a dragon. We all know that the dragons love caves lying on gold as there beds, but Im gunna make a resting place for a forest dragon. :) Anyways I still have to do a lot of planning to do so ill prolly post a picture in a week or so.. as always ladies and gents.. good luck/

We've seen plenty of dragons here :) ....but a dragon in a nice modelled and designed forrest sounds good ;) and good luck for you too.

OK this is the dragon I modeld! yet it still needs a little work. Im gunna re-texture it and modify it to morph targets for facial animations.. As for the forest it is still WIP and I will post again next week... good luck and may the force be with you.. Oh yeah this was an old animation test. so you need divx codec to play it and its about 1.4 megs big.

Yes uhh I just thought of this.. Im just gunna re-model a dragon from scratch just to be more fair with this challege :) ill post the dragon in 2 days.

I really like the wing movements, and the motion blur. Might i suggest you add some secondary movement though. His body is pretty stiff for how hard he's swinging his wings. The chest/shoulders need to be stretching in and out, then it would look better.

Ok Im gunna start from scratch/ and I start with the dragon. which means no previeus models, so wish me luck. ill post again soon..

I searched the net for dragons and I came up with this one as a referance :) as well as my blueprint heehehe :) anyways here it is at an early stage. bye for now/

Cool!! heheheh I missed you too ;)
This dragon kinda reminds me of that glass dragon that Emmanuel Fragelus did a while back... but I guess most dragons do sort of look alike :surprised
Anyhoo, this is looking great!! The one suggestion I have is that the neck should be more like this....

MDB101
05-23-2002, 09:27 AM
Leigh: Oh ok thnx Ill keep that neck in mind I will post again tommow :) bye for now.

I just relised that i didnt write what my concept was! opps! ok my enchanted forest is gunna be like this..

A old giant willow tree died, yet in his hand lay rests his pet named Drulock the forest dragon. The forest dragon awaits for years and years for his master to awake once again.

Ok thats it :) thats my simple concept.. I had drawn it out but I dont have a scanner sadly :( on the other note I have found more referances of a dragon..your willing to save the images and use em aswell :) go nutts! Ill post 3 images of that. My current progress with the forest dragon (Drulock) is still in progress..Im now working on his body. will post again. bye for now.

Good looking head MDB, like the curves. The ears are very cool. My only sugestion at this point is to maybe think about how the Jaw bone and underlying muscles affect the surface skin of your dragons head, particularly where the Jaw meets the neck, perhaps more angular, more of a right angle than a smooth curve.

Look forward to seeing your next update.

Cool rebuild so far..like the lines and flow of it..doesn't seem a typical malicious dragon :)

Very interesting thinking-out on the anatomy pics..should be cool to see you work all that in.

Goes with the skin over comment as well, more definition and hint of structure would be cool.

Well i found time again to update my dragon..I can't wait to finish this guy so i can move on with the forest scene..I think thats the easiest part in modeling..that is why I choosed the dragon first becasue its kinda tricky eh :) so tackle the hardest and with ease the rest of the way :) here it is so far.

Looking good! Very graceful. From the looks of it, those are the wings coming off, right? May need to shift them up to make room for legs..though I kind of like the idea of a more slender dragon with the wings on the arm, that was part of what made the Dragonslayer dragon so sleek and fast looking. Would be cool if he were more of a glider.

Hey MDB where did you get those anatomical references from? Good progress by the way.

windarr: i got thos referance pics at http://www.draconian.com/

hypercube: Yes those legs on the bottem? there not gunna be there and it is gunna look like the dragonslayer of a body frame.

AND: the Dragons postiotion is temp..I put it like that so I can rig it upl ater with cs. I weak when it comes to bones :) sounds funnie :) but yeah its only temp so far :)

Nice dragon u have here
but I think it need to be scaled cause the distance in the middel is small (the billy) I don't know how to discribe it it's the distance betwen the forarm and the backarm
Keep up the good working

Ok the wings are complete.. now for his tail and then texture it! whooho! yay! ill post again. bye for now.

and this.

leigh
05-29-2002, 08:52 AM
Hey sweetie!! Hehehehe ;)
Your dragon is coming along beautifully  The one thing that I would suggest though, is to make his tale longer - at the moment, it looks like his balance would be off because his tail is too short...
The wings look great btw :) - when you texture them, be sure to make a cool tranlucency map with veins and stuff for the wing membranes :bounce:

MDB101
05-29-2002, 08:58 AM
Sweet cakes when are we guna go have a beer under the pale moon light? Yeah I know about the tail actualy I didnt finished that part yet. Still thinking about it really, like what kinda tail.. spiky tail? flat tail like a snake? or mabe a tail like a scorpion?? I dont know as of yet.. ill look around for some fancy tails :)

hypercube
05-29-2002, 11:52 AM
Woo, shaped up nicely..dig the wings too :)

For the tail I'd try spiky things, or maybe a club like in reign of fire.. proportion wise I'd vote for moving the legs back a bit and kind of extending everything out a little, without making it a snake with legs, just enough to give it more flow.

MDB101
05-29-2002, 07:13 PM
Ok this is the last part.. Im not gunna add more because my pc is getting slower and also I need to catch up with the forest scene. I wonder how Im gunna pull this off with the forest scene.. hymm ill have to figure that out later.. As of now I think he is complete. The tail is spread out because of the texturin proposes. It supposed to be slicked back But when in flight the tail will spread out like that. The texturing will take over now this part should be easy now that I know how to UVmap. anways enuf blabbin here u go..il be back/

RE: getting the dragon into the forrest:
One thing you could do is have the dragon flying just above the tops of the trees...possibly at the edge of a clearing with little animals and people running away from it. It could be something like the Harpy eagle going after monkeys in the rain forrest would in the real world.

sean_G

especially from the top. i like the unconventional western-style dragon tail. personally i might like to see that tail-rudder membrane run all the way down his tail tapering of at the end, with a bit of a longer tail, or maybe turning into a fan-type shape.to maximize aerodynamic thrust a la bernoullis principle o course.

but its real cool!, and ORIGINAL, which is a major plus in my book
especially when it comes to the somewhat cliche dragon model, but yours can longer be placed in that category. . .

lookin' sweet

Thats right! this ****er was a bitch! man holy crap! I'm glad that part is over :) Now time to texture it.. The skin is ruff looking thats just the bump mapping so far, ill have to color it now... I know there are a few bugs in it..and it can easly be fixed :) but off to texturing i go.. bye will post updates soon/

That's a fantastic bumpmap on the body. You must have been taking notes in Rob P's last entry ;) :p

I'm looking at the wings and it looks like you have some parameterization going on where the arm meets the wing membrane. Is that just with the temp texture? Or is it something you still need to work on? Anyway it's really great work!

MDB101
06-03-2002, 05:17 PM
Well I had a hard time figuring out what color of this dragon is gunna be..and I think ill go this way.. Although it supposed to me a forest dragon its a black and red dragon// as I posted here... I do have an option of changing it dark green..and If I do I still might leave the wings red and his under belly.. the first pic is in WIP and it is without bump mapping. the other are the wings..this is just point form at this point so those red wings are temp textures.. just to show u what im trying to go for :) please if you have any comments.. say so :) im al ears eh :) hehe here they are.

Oooohhhh...so those are temp wing textures/arms....
I almost missed that because the letters were so honking HUGE I couldn't read them!!

LOL just kidding bro hahaha :D I'm just being a smart-a$$ :p

I like the dragon colored red, but maybe a version of it as green would be nice for compare/contrast. I really like the skeletal structure in the wings. That and the membrane look fabulous. Did you use any web resources (pics/sites...) in designing the dragon? I need to add two into the background in my scene and I'm not sure where to start.

leigh
06-04-2002, 09:56 AM
Hey there :)
Your textures are coming along really nicely! I love the fact that you've done him red.
I know the wing textures are temp, but I don't like the way that look at all :( This may be because you haven't really worked on them though... The problem with them at the moment, is that they look too solid. The membranes need to be a lot more translucent. I also don't like the colours on the membranes - try a more even overall colour - get rid of these whitish splotches. Also, modelling-wise, you should model the bones in the wings better - at the moment, they look too much like pipes, as opposed to bones with actual joints.
Sorry to be a bit harsh, sweetness, but I'm just giving some tips that I think will imrove it :p

06-16-2002, 10:52 PM
Well this is a challange.. but not with modeling but with the time we have to spare on this ;) SO I was wondering if I will finish in time.. I havent done any updates yet due to the time, but Ill try my best effort to complete this challege.. I see I have 4 or 5 days to complete this lol! hymm ill keep in touch.

ZrO-1
06-17-2002, 01:11 AM
Yeah man, we need an update!! ;) hehehe

It seems like a lot of people in this chalenge have had a lot going on dealing with the real world. Your last update on the dragon looked really good. I hope you can finnish it before the challenge ends.

Ok here I go again..but with the trees this time. Um I wanted to make big trees in the back ground. so i modeld a hug tree.
Ill post more later.. Just toi show u how big this tree is I put a comparison in there... look at the bottem and see if u can find the smaller general size tree// just to see what im aiming for.. as for the dragon thats still in progress... ill be back

OK Heres what I did so far. whata think of it? Im gunna add more mountains in the background and mabe aslo i might add clouds.. I think I might have to tone down the grass though :) in the foreground is where gunna be my dragon hopefully, cause thats still in progress. Uh all the trees are in 2d map :) there not in 3d at all lol but closer tree will be in 3d tree just to trick to say all the trees are in 3d :) reason why I made the trees in the background 2d is so becasue I can work with it.. I have a slow PC althlon 800 t-bird proccesor and I dont think it can handle a lot of faces like that.. anyways here is what I got so far... brb

I might not be able to add the dragon :( because its still not complete.. in The dead hand, there was supposed to be where the dragon sleeps.. but I dont know if ill finish that part./ mabe Ill add more trees? or clouds?? or just leave it the way it is?? anyways heres the updated pic:
