View Full Version : CGTalk.com Reaches 50,000 Members
Leonard 08-28-2003, 02:00 AM We at CGNetworks are pleased to announce that our CGTalk forums has reached an unprecedented 50,000 subscribed members. CGTalk is the digital visual effects industry’s largest and most active professional forum covering VFX, 3D, animation, digital illustration, compositing and computer graphics. Moderated by industry professionals, it is renowned for its high quality critique forums and discussions on high-end production techniques.
From co-organizing the 3D Festival 2003 in Copenhagen, Europe's largest and most respected 3D/VFX conference to the foundation of the International 3D Awards, and publishing EXPOSÉ, CGNetworks has shown its commitment to the CG industry in ways that truly benefit the industry. The international community of CG professionals, students and enthusiasts have responded, taking up membership on CGTalk and turning it into a valuable resource for the entire industry.
CGTalk was built on the foundation to facilitate artists helping each other in a conducive environment. It was created by artists for artists, as a means to grow and evolve together. It is also a place where artists can obtain solid critiques to help improve their skills and to obtain mass exposure for those serious about working in this industry. As members of this online CG community we can always count on this rich resource that will never fail to be there when in need of answers to the many issues that we face as digital artists.
On behalf of everyone at CGNetworks and Ballistic Media, we'd like to thank the community at large, for being part of the CGNetworks universe. Keep on rendering!

Leonard Teo and Tito Belgrave
Administrators, CGTalk
Congratulations CGNetworks and CGTalk!
"On behalf of Discreet, congratulations CGTalk! Discreet admires and is continually impressed by the volume and quality of talented 2D, 3D and animation artists in this online community—now topping out 50,000 - an impressive reflection of the health of our industry! Discreet's 3D animation and effects software teams from engineering and marketing to our exec staff all visit CG Talk and applaud the growth of your community. Congratulations—and keep the great content coming!”
Kevin G. Clark. Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, Discreet.
“One of the things that I love about CGTalk is the fact that there is so much ‘stuff’ out there. I'm continually inspired by the quality and quantity of the art which is produced, and the high level of information freely given by its members. From new members to bitter old gurus, CGTalk members share their experiences, frustrations, and successes which each other. It’s not just about creating the art, but in living the life of a production artist.”
Jason Schleifer. Animation Lead, Weta Digital.
"It's no surprise that CgTalk has grown to 50k members. I don't know of any other place on the net where so many talented people can be found. Add to this the fact that everyone is so willing to share their tips and techniques, and CGTalk is hands down the best online community for CG artists."
William Vaughan. LightWave 3D Marketing, NewTek
“I've always enjoyed CGTalk. There are very few places on the internet today where CG artists can get together and talk in a consistently professional environment. I am constantly amazed that such a huge group of people can get along so well. I remember when CGTalk was 5,000 members, now it is 50,000! Amazing! Way to go CGTalk!”
Ed Harriss. 3D Artist and Technical Director at Alternate Route Studios.
"50,000. That's a lot of people!"
Alex Alvarez. Director, Gnomon School of Visual Effects
"Congratulations to all the members and special thanks to the fellow moderators and everyone else who makes this community possible. I've learned a lot from this community, laughed even more, and am pretty sure I could have made a film twice as long if I hadn't spent all that time here, but it sure was worth it. Nothing beats a chance to learn from people of all around the world using all sorts of different applications and techniques!"
Kai Pedersen. Instructor/Animator, LucentDream Animation
"Congratulations to CGTalk for reaching 50K Members. Wow! You're clearly offering what the CG community is asking for. Y'all Rock! ;)"
Mary Alice Krayecki, Intl' Marketing and Channel Development Manager, Right Hemisphere
"I would like to say a big Thank you to every one of my fellow mods , sponsors and the members who helped build this great community. Here is to a even more successful future!"
Ali Tezel. Contributing Writer, CGNetworks
"A full-on congratulations to CGTalk for breaching the 50k member barrier! I find the talent on CGTalk to be a constant source of inspiration and it always pleases me to see what CGTalk and CGNetworks does to promote the artists. Great work all!"
Arild Wiro. Artist, Microforte
"Without CGTalk and it's members, I doubt that I would have been able to accomplish much on my short film project (AlienZ). This is one of the best places on the net to find creative and helpful members of the digital arts community. It's like having a virtual studio and all it's benifits available to you 24/7. 50,000 members almost equals the population of the town where I grew up. Congratulations!"
Kirt Stanke. CGTalk 2D WIP & Collaboration Forum Moderator
"If there is ONE CG community on the web, then is has GOT to be CGTalk. I've been there since the early beginnings, when there were only 12 members if I recall correctly. Being on CGTalk has certainly helped me and many others become better artists. Help in several fields (animation, modeling, texturing etc.) is always around the corner and very helpful. It's the best community with the tightest and friendliest userbase I've come across on the internet. A very well deserved congratulations and kudos to CGTalk and CGNetworks!"
Yves R. Adam. 3d Artist, MCW Studios
A big shout out "THANKS!" to all the mods on CGTalk.

I can't help but wonder if anybody worries about this place getting maybe TOO big... :curious: Um... not to interrupt the joyfest or anything. ;)
Kudos to all who make this happen. CGTalk has been a daily stop for me for quite a while now, and it's sure to be for as long as it's here.
I especially want to thank Leo and Tito for their peripheral ventures... 3D Festival, the ever growing artists gallery, the challenges, Expose, etc...
While CGTalk's members are an invaluable resource to me, these other things are the ones that give each of us the exposure we need to put bread on the table... and drive a Porsche...
No to celebrate, do you think we should all descend on a poor unsuspecting town somewhere in the midwest for a "Drink the Town Dry" weekend?

You can do the thing in your head:
They get spikes in membership here everytime:
1)There is a new Matrix (or "Matrix style") movie.
2)There is a new Star Wars movie.
3)There is anything that blows up on TV or on a movie screen.
4)Sexy Robots.
5)Whenever a rumor that Carmen Electra browses this forum starts circulating.
Yeah, that last one kinda surprised me too.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but I am sure I will to some, isn't that number slightly bunk?
I pour through the list and just in A alone there are at least a few hundred people that I have never posted since their sign up date (which some go back to Jan-02)
Just curious about that. If there is a means to track active members and not just joined membership.

Man.. Tito lookin so suave in his picture. He should be a model or something. Maybe for CK... heh..
Then again, I wonder if anyone has thought of doing a little fan art of the guy we all admire. For those that worship them, they're off being sacrificed right now to appease those mighty lords of the Torus, Cube, and Sphere. ;-) Big head, little Tito body. Yep... this should be done! lol
woo hoo!! 50K.. now.. imagine what that many people could do if they were in their own production house? Our own little army could control the world!!!

man... soo if each member donated 1 dollar to the cgtalk beer fund... we could have the admin's drunk for the rest of eternity...
Or the money could go to supporting those who built and maintain the site, and offer prizes to those who place in the challenges... like the software of the winners choice, tutorial DVDs, books, etc...
It's too bad all of us don't have credit cards... otherwise I would pay.
