Howdy, mainly just opening the thread, since any concept drawings I'd make would resemble a barney color-by-numbers.

Have a couple different ideas image wise, hopefully will get enough of a rough together it'll start making sense.

Here's a..you guessed it..TREE!

http://www.hyper3fx.com/projx/cgc/Tree_Raw1.jpg

Still rough of course, mainly trying to get the flow and style of it, gotta start somewhere. While they say some people can't see the forest for the trees, I figure you can't see a forest without ANY trees, so I'm making those first.

Anyway, something more interesting coming soon. Seeing who's entering already and the ideas being thrown around, can I get scared now? :argh: :D

Ok, here's a little one..I've had NO time at all to do this this week :insane: but I'm almost there on some char stuff and should have those today as well, but here's a rough with slightly more composition/etc. in progress.

Still needs leaves, upper branches obviously..and for them not to all be the same tree. I'm thinking of putting some kind of gems in the bark, though not sure if that'd be too weird or not. But that's probably going to be with textures, which I'm not going anywhere near until modeling is done..:wip:

Trying to keep it all kind of stylized, 'cartoony realism' but warm.. the 'dead tree' comment gave me some dark ideas, but figured it'd be better if it were happy, more Amelie soundtrack, less NIN :D

Thinking about bringing the stream in more, but just kind of wanted something other than ground there, it's not very crucial. I'm planning on the canopy of the trees to fill the empty space above, have to see if that works or not.

Anyway, back shortly with some forest denizens, feel free to set fire to this and give me some other suggestions. Thanks for the comments so far! It's hard to keep up with all the amazing stuff everyone else is doing..this is totally out of control, but whee! heh.

Hopefully the style I'm trying to emulate is apparent, still want to tinker a bit more..not sure about ears, or antenna, or hair, or something funky for the head.

If y'all can tear yourself away from the good stuff, comments would be appreciated :D

Too exaggerated? not exaggerated enough? Maybe a different colour? Also if I make the scene a little darker, maybe I can make 'em glow.

The original idea for the pic was to have this little place, and a girl who goes there after school to read sci-fi to the little fantasy critters. Was thinking young dragons or unicorns, that sort of thing. Not sure if the concept will still work style-wise, but it's all about trying stuff out, right? Maybe if I make the girl more realistic..

Anyway.. :wip:

The trees are just clones of each other, right? Maybe you should randomize them a bit.
The faery looks good, she's got that cartoony feature. Is she going to emit light? Because she looks quite fluorecent.
Defenantly give her pointy ears, Namek-like antennas and long darkgreen hair.
Keep it up :wip: :bounce:

Hey, thanks for the comment, kind of in limbo here..

Yeah it's all tree copies right now..definitely will be varied, have yet to get to them, only have had a few hours to spare on this so far..can't believe it's only been 5 days since the start, yet also can't believe it's already been 5 days.. :argh: Amazing what everyone else is getting done.

Been thinking of her glowing somehow, either an internally lit type thing or post-glow, but either she or the scene need to get darker, so dunno yet. ..good idea on the antennas.

Hey, I like it.

IMO your girl looks great not being realistic cause she fits the scene so well. Nice. I really like the style and color so far. What I don't care for are how the tree tops just stop, how round the rocks are and how the dirt transitions into grass. Don't mean to rant, this is comming along nicely.

It seems to me that from certian angles you trees get fatter as they go up. I think that sould be changed. Trees can be short and stumpy, but they shouldn't get fatter as they go up. I agree with Mike P about the trail transition to grass...It needs to have a softer edge there.

Cool work so far though! I really like your fairy.

thanks guys :)

Ground is pretty low poly right now, harsh on the transitions, I definitely want to add that hangy scrabbly edge to the dirt/grass edges, and beef up the rocks and stuff like that, will get on it..

I'm noticing the 'fattening' thing now at the places I'm splitting new branches off, I have to watch out for that and fix it..hmm.

But yes, the trees will continue up all the way, or at least a little further and thin out, I think I need to bust out magic bevel once it gets complex at the top or I'm gonna go crazy. And then there's the dreaded leaves. Talk about PaintFX envy :D

Anyway, thanks for the helpful notes, hopefully have a heftier update soon..
