I'm pretty new around here, and so, I'm entering this Enchanted Forest challenge.

My concept is going to be some sort of "Ancient Tree Being" thing.. basically, a big 'ol tree with a face. I've been getting better at modeling faces lately, so I wanted to try my skillz at this.

Snce it's a challenge with a deadline, I may actually be motivated enough to finish it! ;)

The concept sounds good and a tree with a face as well ;)
Hope you will be motivated enough to delight us all :)

Ok, here's the beginning of my tree. It's comming along ok.. just roughing out the face. I'm using 3DSMAX 4.2, BTW.

Ok, another update because I know you all are on the edge of your seats.. :hmm:
I'm not sure what to do on the face next... maybe I should move on to other parts of the tree... I think the face needs more work before I mirror it to start working on the branches and roots, but I'm not sure what else to do with the face right now... I've been staring at it too long. Anyways... C&C are welcome. :)

edit: where did the pic go?

I know it's been a while, but here's a little update of my entry. I hope to finish the branches and then work on rigging and texturing, but I don't know if I'll have time to rig and texture it.. especially since I am a complete n00b when it comes to rigging and texturing

Hmmm I don't know if it's too late for this crit but...:
I think that the face on your tree is a little too human. I'd try and make it more styleised. Almost like the tree naturally grew in a form that resembled a face sort of, then magic made the face come alive. If that makes any sense.

The tree character overall is coming along really well especially if you consider yourself a n00b to the prog you are using. Keep up the good stuff.

I was kinda thinking of ways to make it less human looking, but that's what came out... I'm going to concentrate on finishing the modeling and try to get some decent textures on it... just depends on how much time I have to work on it before the deadline.

Thanks for the crits though :)

Heh, now that I think about it, I'm very happy that you think it looks too human! :applause:

Cool deal. Yeah I don't see it as any problem. Just an artistic suggestion (they're kind of like opinions, every body has one :D ). I agree about the work flow, model the rest and get the textures going and if you have time at the end maybe tweak the face a bit. keep on keepin on. :)
