View Full Version : Alien Character WIP - "Gray"
I wanted to see about using lofts for more than pipes, etc. So I started messing around with this guy - the basic forms were lofts, then edited as meshes. The model uses a symmetry with a HyberNURB as well. There's probably a bajillion gray meshes out there already, but I suppose everyone has to try it once right? :D
I haven't done a whole lot of character modelling, especially humanoid types. The feet haven't been completed yet, and obviously lots of work left, but I thought i'd get some early input.

Cinema 4D R8.1, no textures except for a basic procedural noise SLA shader on the specular channel.

good on ya...posting straight off the bat bud..welcome to cgtalk
think the shoulders are a little wide and bulky maybe try slimming it down a little...apart from that its a bit hard really criting something thats open to interpretation...why lofts in particular?
I was tired of always starting from a cube! ;)
Basically just part of me trying to refine my C4D knowledge, and fill in the gaps. I've been missing things that are just plain stunningly obvious in the manual or wherever, so I found myself playing with lofts.
In about 5-10 minutes I had this:

Made from a bunch of circles in a loft - then made the circles editable splines and tweaked the vertices here and there.
And limbs and appendages are great targets for lofts as well.

oh yeah...! Splines and Lofts are a very great tools...
i allways use a combo of basic shapes like cubes and cyliinders and splines...
bets way of learning for meis to take a blueprint and start rebuilding it with splines, then i oft it and voilá things done...
