Hello, any ideas on how to export a 3ds file from xsi 6? Or alternatively, any other format that i can get geometry from xsi into sketchup?

Any help appreciated.

Possibly .obj, may require you get a plug-in for sketchup but supported by default in XSI 6.

Or the "scenic" route (as it is less direct)
Export from XSI as ".obj"
Get the FBX 2010.2 Converter for Windows (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=10775855) (freeware) to convert the ".obj" into ".fbx" and use the same converter to convert this ".fbx" to ".3ds"...

Thanks for the reply guys. Jettatore, so far as I'm aware, Sketchup doesn't natively support obj's which is a pain. I haven't tried looking for a plugin that might change that, i'll look into it.
Hirazi, I've downloaded the converter and had a go at that already but from what i can see, and unless i'm missing something, which is entirely possible, i can't see that you can convert from fbx to 3ds??

Hirazi, ignore me. I think i've got it.

OK, I think that would work well... if i could only convert my obj to a fbx file. The converter seems to have a bit of a brain fart when i try and convert from any obj i export from xsi. It's fine with any other obj, just the ones from xsi, which is strange.

Any thoughts welcome.

I'm not sure, but wasn't there a direct ".fbx" exporter built into XSI 6.01 or 6.02?
If so, you could obviously export to ".fbx" directly and then use the converter to convert the file into ".3ds"...

.3ds and .obj export should be there, unless you're running a 64bit version of XSI 6.
Install the Crosswalk tools, and fbx export is will be available as well too.

If above fails, try Collada. I know sketchup exports to collada; dunno about import.
