View Full Version : Wacom Intuos 2 Problem..
M.Rogne 08-27-2003, 08:03 PM I just bought a new Wacom Intuos 2 A4... Now, I realise that there may be a minor problem. Or major... The cursor moves, even when the pen isn't touching the tablet. It'll first stop moving when the pen is lifted about half an inch above the surface.. It's my first tablet, so now I ask... Is this normal for this specific tablet, or tablets in common?

If it happens in the "mouse" mode (if you use the pen in relative rather than absolute coordinates) then it's "normal". But extremely ennoying and makes mouse mode hardly useable. Call Wacom and bitch about it. There's nothing they can do, though, it's just bad design.
If it happens in the pen mode it's not normal.
[edit] Another issue is interference. Hold the tablet as far away from the monitor and other electrical devices as you can and see if the problem still occurs. The only way to solve it is to put it at a distance from the monitor and other devices. If it doesn't help call Wacom and request a replacement tablet.

If the pen and the mouse are not on the tablet (or hovering above it) the cursor should not move at all. If it does I would call it a problem. I have a Graphire2 and if there is nothing on the tablet the cursor never moves.
However if you leave the mouse sitting on it "in between" two sening locations it is prone to jittering about as it deals with not having enough resolution to figure out exactly where it is sitting. I suppose the pen would do the same but when I use the pen any cursor jitter can be atributed to hand drift.

I have an Intuos 2 as well, also my first wacom tablet. I bought it about 6 months ago and I always thought it was suppose to move. I use it in pen mode and when I hover over the tablet (as far as 1/2 inch) my cursor still moves, like M.Rogne's. Are you guys saying that it this shouldn't be the case? :surprised

It's supposed to move as long as it moves where you want it. I thought he's talking about it moving uncontrollably. If he means that it moves while the stylus is in the proximity of the tablet then it's normal as long as it moves under your control.
The jitter is usually not caused by the jitter of the hand, unless you're an alcoholic like myself.

Thanks for the replies. The movement I meant is when the pen is hovering above the surface of the tablet... I know that it is s'posed to move even when the pen isn't touching, the distance just seems a bit large to me... Probably because I'm a noob to digitizers... :D
Thanks.

A defective table would really suck.
