View Full Version : Trying out rayDisplace...

I'm trying out Olivier Renouard's fantastic displacement map generator, rayDisplace. But I just can't get it to work, mainly because I cant get the "convert to file texture (Maya software)" to use Mental Ray. What am I doing wrong. I've checked that mental ray is the renderer just about everywhere, but it still shows "convert to file texture (Maya software)", and that just won't work. :banghead:

I've started trying out the older versions, but I need to be doing this in Maya 5 and there seems to be no way to use the plug without MR in version 5.

Olivier... Help:D

i was gettin mad the same way, but thereŽs always a solution....i donŽt know if in maya 5.0 this convertToTexture menue in the Hypershade is changing when you wanna bake with MR, but you can try the BatchBaking MR.
This BatchBaking and BakingUVsets is not an option in the hypershade, but youŽll find it in the lightnig/shading menue in the rendering mode.

happy baking!

Tjena Jan!

I think I've gone through that site a zillion times, and the workarounds page as well, but still I can't find any clues. Must be blind...

Mokz: Thanx buddy, I'll try that.

OK, the "batch bake (mental ray)" option in Lighting/shading menu did work, BUT when I baking the "getDistance"-shader gets all grey-scale. It's supposed to be RGB...
Maybe I'm becoming a bit numb after staring to much into this problem now...
:hmm:

Thanx swag!

But isn't this just for generating Normal maps? Can I use it for displacement maps also?
BTW, I do get it to work with the grayscale map, but I just can't figure out why... The renders come out even better than from the sample file(!). I'm quite happy, but I just don't get it... and that's kind of frustrating
